Greece have not qualified for the ICC Cricket League. They are in Europe Division 5.

They will play Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Sweden, Turkey in Greece in September where the winner will advance to Division 4 in 2010.

For their development it is required. These teams don't have the grass roots and cricketing structures of the greater test nations nor the poorer ones. For them to get better they need to play a large amount of games where they are rewarded for success which enables them to play against slightly better opposition each time so that once they reach the top level, it hopefully won't be a team getting rolled for 50 chasing 300+.

Well I think that until they develop their grass roots cricket and the adminstrative and training side etc they will always be getting rolled against the bigger boys (blatantly obvious I know)

In any case, it will be interesting to see who qualifies. What about The Netherlands?

Never mind, I just read the thread about the ODI WC Qualifiers

Yes but it is these senior players that then take it back to the grass roots, with experience expertise and knowledge of what it takes to succeed at a greater level.

Yeah, I understand it. Afghanistan are a shining example of this, but also one out of the box that wont happen often

Very few of them will be playing for six years, the top tiers of Associate nations don't come in until much later do they? Most of the sides starting this far out will probably be gone with 5 years of qualifying to run.
It does seem too long though. Form now and form 5 years from now are very different beasts. But they aren't professional cricketers, and can only take 2 weeks off a year for their cricket rather than a couple of qualifying stages of 5-6 weeks apiece.
