Im a big fan of Russell Brand, but Ponderland just didnt hit the spot.
Probably because its made for TV and sanitised a fair bit.

I thought it was fairly good and got a bit of a laugh out of it
Better than a lot of other shows at 10.30

30 Rock and The Office are later than that.

A lot of comedians aren't as good in their own TV shows, opposed to their regular stand-up routines. Even the flight of the conchords aren't nearly as funny in their TV show as they are when they do stand-up (or sit-down) but they're still much better than Brand either way.
I find him more annoying than funny, Ross Noble has him covered in the weird British stand-up stakes.

As do Noel Fielding and Julian Barret.

Im a big Brand fan.
While I enjoyed the show, it was far from his best work. Being on TV is not really his style I dont think. His stand up where he is free to say and do anything is very good and often pushes the limits.
Anybody read his book? He is quite a brilliant writer, has an amazing way with words. Has led one ****ed up, amusing and at points very sad life. But still I rekon he is hilarious. Have a look at some of his interviews from when he has been on American chat shows. Steals the show everytime.
But yeah Ponderland is not his best work. To safe, which is not what Brand has ever been about. Shame his radio show in England got banned, well he quit but didnt really have a choice I dont think.

He is currently making a movie based around the person he played in Forgetting Sarah Marshell which was essentially based on himself. Should be funny.

Yeah, being a fag to fags
AMAZING bad imo
he sounds like vince noir, but sure as hell isnt as cool as him. hahaha
Yep, think Brand is great when he's talking about himself. Ponderland left me a little dazed. Found the footage more funnier than him.

I never thought a comedian who is essentially one long dirty limerick could ever be considered 'cutting edge'.

Yeah and commercial breakdown etc. are on earlier. I'm not saying its the best thing on TV or its better than the shows you mentioned, but its watchable IMO

Russell Brand is very very over-rated. That's not too say he's that bad, as some of his stand-up and radio stuff is alright. It's at the stage now though where he has just got this whirlwind of hype around him, and he doesnt deserve it IMO.

I've only seen them once, in that clip, but found it underwhelming. Noble way better, based on that performance.

agreed thats not their greatest, also note that the clip is from 2001, to me noble came along 4-5 years later and is doing the same thing

What a tripe of a show that is. That bloke Russell Brand sure knows how to talk. He just goes on and on and on.

He has been quiet for the last few years.
He doesn't need to do TV anymore. He's rich biatch!

I didn't expect much so I was pleasantly surprised. This guy is definately not a patch on the Boosh but I don't feel I've seen the best of him from this one show.

It is a bad concept for a show from essentially a pretty funny bloke.

Yeah I admit he has gotten better however the majority of the first two episodes were a major struggle. Don't know if anyone saw last week but he went on for about half the show on this lady who has sex with her animals like dogs and horses, that was pretty off putting.

It's cheap, super low-brow and he doesn't extend himself at all, but I have to admit it gets a laugh out of me. I like it. ****ing no idea where he is pulling those clips from, but it's not a bad half hour of TV at all.

The bit where the guy was dying the birds was bloody funny though.
And I thought the bit last night with the cannibal guys friends was good

This show is pathetic.
He is about as funny as a fart in an elevator, and a disgrace to UK comedy.

Its very hit and miss. Mostly miss though.

I like it. Dunno where he pulls his clips from though.
The one with the "cool" school teacher was a pisser.
Dreadful show however Ive still managed to watch it each week. (Not much else on etc etc)
Its pretty plain and most of his stuff is pretty childless. Must be really cheap television when you think about it. He stands on a stage, watches a clip, makes fun of it and then goes on and on and on. Thats the entire show

I was watching Ponderland last night and at the same time wondering how are people finding this show amusing? Why are people clapping like mindless drones?
Whilst there was a jubilant applause in motion (background sounds), the camera panned over the audience and to my surprise not one single person was clapping!
Canned laughter at its worst. :thumbsd:
I enjoyed last night episode. Haven't had a big belly laugh for a while.

Agreed. Very cringeworthy.
I've found the show to be hilarious at times. I was crying laughing when he had that crazy polo guy clip, and he accused him of thinking he was in a cartoon.
There is nothing sophisticated about the show but Brand is friggin funny imho.

If any of you like the show i'd recommend getting his BBC 6 radio show podcasts off the net ( on torrents and fan sites).
A lot of the stories on ponderland (minus the clips) come from the radio show he did with Matt Morgan ( who acts as program consultant on Ponderland) and stand up comedian trevor lock.
To get an idea there is a youtube video with trevor, matt and russ in it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BYw_jwt_wE
Ponderland suffers a bit for me as russ is heaps funnier in a group situation as opposed to being on his own and his humour in such a situation, generally regarding the nuances of his co-hosts coupled with his englishness, is superior to ponderland or his solo stuff ( which is still funny for me but not as funny as the radio show)

I would agree with that. I loved his radio show, he was def better when he was working off other people. Matt Morgan and he were a great comedy duo.
If you like him read his book. Is quite the read. Quite the ****ed up life he has lead.
