Anybody caught the Thursday night sports show on One?
It pretty much looks at the upcoming games for the weekend plus a bit of chat on other sports, games, banter etc.

I watched it last week and found it pretty enjoyable.

Anyone know though, as to why it isn't on live across australia? The footy show is on live Monday, but not Thursday Night Live.
Doesn't bother me heaps but why 1 program and not the other?

I am not a fan to be honest. That Mark Howard annoys me - he seems to think he is a big star, and he isn't. I enjoy the football preview but going on about the odds is painful.

I don't mind the odds, they are done quite quickly and give you a good run down if you haven't bothered to check them anywhere else. It's clearly a paid thing to ONE though.

I don't mind Mark Howard, i can see what you mean but i find him quite funny and enjoy when he is on.

Can't say I like the show. I don't mind Mark Howard in the footy, but he tries to crack jokes which aren't funny at all. Also found it funny when they showed speckys and stuff where Luke Darcy was like "That's a contender for MOTY!!" and the rugby crowd were silent.

Any show that tries to combine both AFL and NRL is doomed to failure. Bill Woods is an unfunny, Sydney-sider. Mark Howard thinks he is the S*#$.

I feel sorry for Darc being surrounded by NRL loving morons.

agree, have caught it a few times now and the frequency with which they have to keep going back to check the odds is very annoying.
also mark howard is like a poor mans bill brownless, he needs to improve his repertoire and talk more about sport instead of general bullshit. he is the weak link in that show.
bill woods is associated with the viewers mainly through motor sport but i find that when he talks about other sports he does have a decent amount of knowledge. they had him on sen 1116 once and i was surprised with what he did know.

I'm a bit of a punter, and even I think they go on about the odds too much. A couple of years ago there was no mention of them at all during any footy show, but now you see ads for Sportsbet every 2 seconds and odds being repeatedly mentioned. I watch footy for the game and non-betting talk, I can get odds from other sources if I'm interested.

Also that Mark Howard really loves himself. The high-pitched voice and the arrogance are pretty high for a relative nobody, it's hard to handle him even when he's being serious. I don't mind a funnyman, but they have to actually be funny (and primarily, knowledgable - someone like Cometti).

Couldn't agree more. Its probably a rant for another thread but the in your face promotion of sports betting during broadcasts is really getting annoying. If you desperately need the odds, you will find a way, don't need to be told every 5 minutes from the comm box:rolleyes:

Back on the show, it is watchable to an extent, but like most shows of this ilk it is cringeworthy a lot of the time. And its mainly to do with the hosts thinking they are big stars and that their jokes are side splitting every time. This is a problem because the analysis of the round of sport is not overly in depth, so the entertainment needs to be at least par - and its not.

I really hate the odds being constantly referred to but that is life. They wouldn't have the show if it doesn't have sponsors. It is a bit like on The Footy Show when they constantly refer to Natural Blonde and back in the day Jim Bean. It is more a government issue to stop betting advertised during sporting shows.

Mark Howard is not particularly funny but does add some value to the show. The quiz is not too bad and it was pretty funny when he had the old bloke who wouldn't smile next to him a few weeks ago.

My biggest concern with the show is it not being live into WA. OWAAT is live yet they somehow can't put a show on live which is promoted as a "live show". It also makes the IPL straight after ridiculously delayed into WA.

I sent TNL an email last week in regards to the delayed coverage and this was their response:

It has to do with classification issues. We are a PG show and with the gaming component of the show we are not allowed to broadcast into any state before 1930.

I understand that to be the constant flow of odds and gambling talk on the show, not kids aren't allowed to watch Howie's quiz before 1930.

So the only reason they can't broadcast the show live into WA and SA is because of their sponsor being a betting agency. What are people's thoughts on this?

P.S. I also said it was pretty poor that a sports channel were favouring a delayed chat show over live IPL and the response from TNL was:

I take your point about the IPL and will pass it along.

Thanks the dood. Now doesn't that PG rating thing start at 7pm. Therefore it could be live in Adelaide. However Perth would still have to miss out.
