With the TAC Cup underway and going well, i thought we should cast an eye towards the future and what people would like to see come 2010.

We were having this discussion on another thread and i thought lets hear everyones opinions on this topic? There is positives and negatives to be made for both leagues. Personally i think the VFL is the way to go.

What would you rather and more importantly what do you think is the better option for the football club?

They must play in the VFL. They would get more exposure plus extra game experience. The VFL is the "B" grade division of the AFL.

Not to mention the fact also that the routine of travel would set them up for their debut season, that and getting to play at a lot of the grounds they will play on when the big stuff starts.

Would it be possible for combined Brisbane/GC side in the VFL? I am sure the Lions would prefer better footy for their reserves players to play in too. Would hurt AFLQ quality though.

This is the big positive for me. Gives the players an idea of what they can expect and what is expected of them when playing away from home. Also like you said getting used to certain grounds and giving the club a chance to improve its Victorian Supporter Base.

Will also give the staff and players experience against certain players that are playing VFL yet have a big future at a higher level in the following years.

Really? Bull shit it is. You can believe that crap all you like, but it’s not going to change the fact the SANFL is the second best league in Australia.

To be honest i think it won't matter one way or the other , of the players that run out for the Coast in the next year or 2 , how many will be on our AFL list ?? and how many will be playing in our first game ?? . Our team will consist of mainly uncontracted players from other clubs and high draft picks in the 2010 draft.

Does this side have TAC home games on the GC or simply play games in Victoria?

VFL. The QAFL is sub-standard in comparrison and if any of the current group do end up in the AFL, they will have had 2 years of exposure to the highest quality footballers and constant interstate travel. Perfect preparation for the real thing.

I can certainly how this can be seen as claiming exactly that:
The VFL is the "B" grade division of the AFL.

I can also see that you might not have been claiming that, but simply saying that the VFL is largely made up of AFL reserves. (IMO, that is the VFL's big weakness when compared to the SANFL and WAFL; too many underdone bodies and players not interested in the club they line up for.)
A year of VFL, or SANFL, could be a good grounding for the GC. If either comp is interested in having a team for one year.

I doubt that's actually true from purely a standard viewpoint. There are a shitload more AFL listed players running round in the VFL - that's probably why it's a higher standard.

The SANFL does a lot better at attracting the best non AFL-listed players in the country, but i'd be surprised if it makes up the gap IMO.

have to agree with Rob. As far as non-listed AFL talent goes the SANFL is streets ahead. But for sheer numbers of AFL listed players playing in the VFL each week make the VFL the premier competition of the state leagues across the country.

With the SANFL and WAFL happy with their setups, wouldn't an Eastern Seaboard comp make sense?

Let the VFA reform to cater for suburban Melbourne.

Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Nth Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, Western Bulldogs & Western Sydney when they get going... possibly Tasmania.

An eastern seaboard reserves would make sense, but I don't think Tassie should be in it.
We might finally be getting some semblence of footy back in the state, the absolute last thing that's wanted is another foray into a second tier mainland comp. There's too much in Tassie that needs fixing before looking at that sort of stuff again.

I went to a QAFL game last night - NT THUNDER vs. Mt. Gravatt (the local boys won!)

I was suprised, and thought the quality of the game was quite good. QAFL could still be an option for the Coasters...
