Lol two ladies next to us left at the 17 mins mark in the last quarter. I still can't believe we won it though, we just had this burst of pace

Two ladies in front of me left. One of them said, "Let's go" and the other one said, "No, let's wait and see if Paddy gets the ANZAC medal". The other one replied, "Nah a Collingwood player will get it." and they left.:D

Even better.
I had a Collingwood supporter next to me in an Essendon members section, and he was standing up saying "Oh, you're going now are you Essendon fans...hahaha bye bye...bye" Did that slap him right in the face. SUCK IT. Haha.."Leon, show em how it's done" Next second Leon Davis was tackled nicely. :D

Yep those supporters who left early would be kicking themselves..

It's something I've never really understood. Even if it's just to 'beat the crowd'.... You've gotta sit through the pain to get a feeling for the players and eventually make days like today really meaningful (from a football perspective, I mean -- meaning abounded in many ways today).

The ones I did see leave (who, via their comments, I'd gotten to know a little bit of their character during the match), were more the "You idiot, McPhee!" type of 'supporter'. The ones who stayed seemed to be genuine supporters, which is why when the team flies up like it did today, we get carried along right behind them.

You can't leave when it's so close in the last quarter... you just can't.

For crying out loud you're Essendon supporters too... they obviously have short memories and don't remember a certain game against the Roos. Anything can happen.

I stayed, right to the end.

Putting an Essendon guernsey on commands a certain level of commitment. Couple that with Anzac Day and chances are good you are going to see something special.

This was special.

I played footy today and once my game finished, i was in club rooms to see the final 5 minutes, thought we couldn't win it from there, but it was awsome, final siren went and all the collingwood supports left the room quickly. (can some1 plz post zaharakis goal on youtube :D)

CARN THE F**KIN BOMBERS!!

My old man thought he'd beat the traffic, i could hear the remorse left in his voice when i spoke to him after, poor bugger.

I love it how a collective group of people can be so happy with each other when they each have something so passionately in common. One of those epically great feelings. I saw the boys off through the members gates. Wooooo

There is no way that I would leave with the game still in the balance.

Those that did leave today will really regret the fact they missed one of the great wins in Essendon's history.

I admit to being that type of supporter.... But I never have and never will leave a game early unless it's an emergency of some sort.

A lot of people left in my area when Rocca kicked the ball through the goals when it was a free kick to us. Because of the confusion and noise a lot of people would have thought the game was out of reach.

But to the supporters who still went home when Jetta got the goal to put them within 8 points. For Shame.

Is it the first time this has happened to him?? I don't think I can recall another time.

I left the game at 3/4 time unfortunatley as I had other commitments. Was doing so whether we were up/down/tied :( So sad to miss the greatest finish on an anzac day we have seen, but still stoked to catch some of our stars in the making

I remember once he put it on and took it off again -- can't remember the end result or if he put it back on again.

But what a stupid 'tradition' or whatever. Only Collingwood. What's the point? You can celebrate and be proud without it. Reeks of arrogance.

I'VE got one word for you Connex! It sucks!

I have one word for you "patience" :)
We stayed. Then we waited a while for most to leave. We then waited and watched while everyone sardined themselves into the first two trains and then caught the third one home in relative comfort.:D

Anyway those putting all the blame on Connex for our rail problems need to remember a couple of things.

1- The government is responsible for the currnet rail infrastructure that dates back to the 60's and not Connex.
2- The government is also responsible for purchasing the trains and not Connex.

Very hard to run an efficient rail system on an outdated system with outdated trains .....

Most fun I've ever had standing with the grog squad.

3 Collingwood supporters about 5 rows in front of us started to give us shit midway through the third quarter.

They were hugging and celebrating for a good 2 minutes after Rocca sent the ball flying through the goals, just for all of us to laugh at them for not realising that not only didn't he get the goal, but gave away 50.

Even funnier watching him leave.

Good thing is none of us left, and I have never seen a group of men that eager to hug each other.

Large essendon supporter behind me kept bagging us all day. Such insightful stuff as "Don't kick it to Lucas, he can't run." She was an angry woman full of negative comments... and she went at it all day. Can't stand being near these imbeciles. Mentioned several times that Zaka was a bit overwhelmed by the occasion. Nice of him to kick the most important goal under immense pressure. The most ignorant comments were "stop this handball shit, just kick it!", showing that they know nothing about gameplans and strategies to suit our playing list. I love passion but it can be distorted by internal anger and stupidity.

Couldn't believe how many people left around me when we were behind. I hope some of you are reading this and feeling sick in the guts.

I left the ground at the exact moment when i saw Rocca running into the open goal, me and my mate didnt realise it was a free kick to fletch and all the pies supporters around us were still going crazy and screaming with joy, so we had no idea it was our ball and 50 until we got to the ground floor of the G. In my defence we thought the deficit was now 20 points and as soon as we left the mcg gate to get outside the arena my mate next to me said jetta just kicked a goal theres 2 minutes left, rocca's must not have been a goal, do you wanna go back and watch the end? There were a few starting to leave in my area- including the people that sit in the row in front of me- I think i will remind them at our next home game at the G...

There were these 2 elderly ladies packing up there lunchboxes, picked up there bags off the ground and stood up to leave, took one step, Leroy kicked the goal and very wisely sat back down immediately

You have no "Defence" - FFS you don't leave that early, NO MATTER WHAT. Have you been an Essendon supporter for about a week or so?.. a true fan would have realised how lifted we get in situations like these. There's no time in giving up.

Seriously man, that's embarrassing. You didn't even sit long enough for a decision to be made?! - "we had no idea it was our ball and 50 until we got to the ground floor of the G." - WTF?! Ground floor already?! What's with the rush?!

I just don't get "supporters" like you.

lol, second that

My old man and I went inside to watch the last 5 minutes on the TV near the bars, partially to get out of the rain and partially to make a quick getaway once the game finished. Got heckled as we were getting out, even though we weren't actually leaving, but not spending hours in traffic was worth it. Supporters who tell other supporters how they should support are annoying. :thumbsu:

Great to read all these stories. Thread of the Year here on the Essendon board:thumbsu:

Reading these tales of joy and misery about one of the greatest H&A wins of this club's history makes me imagine what it was like to be at the ground. For a Bomber supported living 4000Km away from the action, its great to feel the joy of victory and laugh -really hard- at the pain of the people who left early.

I myself jumped off the couch like a madman and puched the air when that ball went sailing through the sticks. The football Gods are kind to give us that snatch of a win against those Collingwood fans/parasites.

The noise of that Bomber roar pumping out of the big screen was massive!

Although I wasn't at the game, I was watching a stream of the game.

With 10 minutes to go, our dinner guests arrived (NZ 2 hours ahead) and I'm still watching on the laptop.

So after they went up by 14 and the wife in my ear about turning it off, I shut down the laptop.

Then 5 minutes later, the texts started coming in. All I could say was "You ****ing *****!"

The only time I've ever left a game early is when we got hammered by Hawthorn in 1992 by 160 points. I left at 3/4 time.

I even stayed to the end of the 1990 GF. Even through the presentations.

Pretty much what happened at my place. I had tonsilitis/pharyngitis for a week leading up to the game, come Saturday my voice was back to normal. Now, it's shot to shit again...

Those who chose to leave early, I sat through this once -

Adelaide 6.1 13.4 20.7 30.8 188
Essendon 2.2 4.6 5.9 6.14 50

You should stick it out, because sometimes you miss something brilliant.

I think a few people are looking at this the wrong way. I've never left a game before and never will. But not for the reason of 'missing something great' or some eternal hope that we could pull out something amazing; it is to support my team.

I thought the game was over twice on Saturday.

1). Leon Davis' goal.
2). The boundary throw in after the Lovett-Murray throw in the centre.

I didn't think we could win until the siren went and even then I couldn't believe it. I was actually still in shock when Jetta got the ball and fumbled..it all happened so fast.

Nonetheless I was f****** proud of the way we played given we lost Hille after 90 seconds and wanted to clap the team off after the game regardless of the result. To be able to do it with a win was just amazing.

I said it at the time (when we were 14pts down) that I was wrapped at the way we had played and not given up. To then go and win is what makes this win the greatest I have seen bar one (the 93 Prelim).

McPhee stood up in the backline and if he can continue like that will really add experience, along with Fletcher, in our emerging backline! :thumbsu:

I would be curious to know if anyone who left early in 1981 when Neale Daniher humiliated Carlton, made the same mistake 28 years on. I'm a stander to the end and saw both games, and the buzz on Saturday was different, but the red and black passion was once again stirred. Alas, I may be one of the few of the right vintage.

.

No dont work for Connex or know anyone who does.
Also have nothing to do with polotics.
What i do know is the government is happy to let people run with the opinion that it is all the fault of Connex becasue it takes the heat of them.
They can be the good guys and let someone else take over and it all looks great. On top of this they will complete the new underground line to caulfield and a few other small projects and everyone will be praising them.
Too bad it all should have been done 20 or 30 years ago under previous Labour or Liberal governments.

The simple facts are poor spending on infrastructure ( signaling , maintanence and new lines ) and lack of new trains is the major part of the problem.
