Fletcher's 300th AFL/Essendon game - a top effort.
Hille is a massive loss, obviously - how do we handle potential ruck woes? Charman out for the Lions as well, so perhaps it won't be as much of an issue as it will be later on...
Have not won at the Gabba since Round 8, 2000 - but Essendon have won their last 3 games against Brisbane by an average of 46 points.
Brisbane coming off a thumping by the Cats, which wasn't totally surprising. They will come out fired up, especially at home. Voss will love nothing more than sticking it up Essendon.
Anyone thinking teams can't rebound from massive losses need look no further than our own effort last year - thrashed by 99 points against Geelong and come out the next week and knocked off Carlton... it will be a tough game...
Discuss.

We're lucky that the Lions rucks have been hit by injury. Charman and Leunberger are both out. Clark and a bit of pinch hitting from Henderson is how they set up against Geel. Geel dominated the hit outs, had something like 60 - 15 hit outs. Murray and Tippet are both ruckmen on the rookie list with Brisbane, after getting smashed by Mumford and Blake, Voss may look to elevate one of the rookies..
Our last three games have been played at the Dome. It will be interesting to see how we go at the Gabba, with a fairly 'new' team.
We usually play Bradshaw into form, fingers crossed history doesn't repeat itself.
If we can limit Brown and Bradshaw's influence, we'll go close to winning.
I think both teams will be feeling a bit sore from this rounds fixtures. Lets get 22 fit men out there. Maybe a wet game would suit us more as surely the Lions boys would be used to warmer weather? Need someone to help Paddy in the ruck, and in case he gets hurt. Hopefully Scotty Lucas finds some form, and drains that elbow lol

We should win this game. I would be tempted to play Pears on Bradshaw and maybe McPhee on Brown. McPhee may not be able to match Brown's strength, but he will be able to run with him all game. Danhier and Hooker are other options. I think our mids and rucks are better than the Lions, but our forward line is struggling at the moment. Drummond and Patfull can not be allowed to run free. Maybe Monfries on Drummond and McPhee on Patfull (assuming that McPhee does not play in the backline).

This one could go either way for us.
One way - With such a young team, that huge win could drain us mentally and we might struggle to get up mentally.
The other way - We learnt a bit about complacency after the awful North game and taken steps as a club to stop that happening.
This is a huge game for the club and determines where we really are. If we lose, then it's going to be afrustrating year as we'll win games we shouldn't and lose games we should.
if we win, we'll show the league we're well on the way to being back!
Looking forward to going to my first game in 2 years :D:D:D

Power and Black are past their best. Adcock and Rich are quality, but Brennan and Johnstone are downhill skiers and Dalziell is solid, but nothing great.

Dalziell is also out for 12 weeks.
Im trying to convince myself we can win. But after the past couple of seasons its in my nature to assume we will lose. 3 wins from 5 tho, if we do win this week, we are well and truly on the way up!

Yes it helps us, but never good to see players go down with LTI's. Gotta feel for him.

TAB opening odds -
Brisbane $1.45
Essendon $2.60
Interesting.
I'm going to tip Essendon this week, we have a chance up there and the Dalzeill injury will certaintly help us.
Brisbane has a great midfield, but like Collingwood they are quite slow. If we can generate as much run as we did this weekend then we should win confortiably. We have to put a tag on Black - (Hocking) and hopefully Stanton can play a run with role with Power.

Is it just me or does Hocking not stop his opponent from getting touches? :o

Disagree. They are above average, but no longer elite.

Nullified S.Burgoyne Rd 1, was beaten by Judd in Rd 3 but still fought valiantly, back from injury in Rd 5 and wore Pendlebury like a glove for the most part of the game, It's true Pendles got touches, but wasn't as influential as he has been previously due to how tight the tag was and lack of time Pendles was given to use the ball he did get. Hard working, hard body who runs and runs and runs, uses the ball he does get quite well and will only improve with more time at AFL level. Should have a good duel with Black on Saturday, hopefully limiting the space Black has to play with.

I'm not anti-Hocking, I've come around in the space of 3-4 games, I was just making an observation.

I'm hoping Paddy can continue his form from last week against a ruck depleted Brisbane. Hopefully Spike can get up for this game, because we really need his hardness around the stoppages and delivery into the forward 50. I would have Tayte play on Brown, but if it turns into a bloodbath I would throw Fletcher in the hole and make his primary goal to be a stopper. Mcphee can go to Bradshaw and hopefully play as good as last week.
GO BOMBERS!!
Fletcher 300... woah
That'll help because he should be up to play well
