There has been talk of which allrounder to play Watson/Symonds but I wouldn't play either I'd be happy to go in with 5 bowlers- Warne, Lee, Gillespie,Bichel,Mcgrath as 4 of them are very handy with the bat anyway.
Watson and Symonds both fall into the catagory of not quiet a bowler not quiet a batsman. If you look at some of the good all rounders like Sth Africa's Kallis and Pollock they are top class in at least one trade.
So my line up would be.
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Martyn
Bevan
Lehmann
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
Bichel
McGrath

Watson is our leading wicket taker in the VB series and is a better bowler than Bichel IMO.

After last night, you'd be tempted to re-instate Nathan Bracken. Top effort.
But my team:
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Martyn
Lehmann (as much as it burns me)
Bevan
Watson
Warne / Hogg
Lee
Bichel
McGrath
Jason Gillespie is a good bowler, but I think Bichel's got him in 1 dayers.
But if I really had my way, I'd have Maher in ahead of Lehmann.;) :D

A. Gilchrist
M. Hayden
R. Ponting
D. Martyn
D. Lehmann
M. Bevan
S. Watson
S. Warne
B. Lee
J. Gillespie
G. McGrath
12th man - A. Bichel
Pretty much the 'A' team as it is now. With Lehmann missing the first few though, I'd put Symonds in as replacement. I would put S. Waugh in, but of course in their divine wisdom, the selectors have declared him too old.

Michael Clarke is definately one for the future and should be a big part of the 2007 World Cup team.
As for my line up, it was a tough choice for two of the positions, but in the end I decided to go with this side.
Adam Gilchrist
Matthew Hayden
Ricky Ponting - Captain
Damien Martyn
Michael Bevan
Jimmy Maher (Lehmann to replace him once he has finished his suspension)
Shane Watson
Shane Warne
Brett Lee
Jason Gillespie
Glenn McGrath
12th Man: Andy Bichel

If I could pick players not in the squad I would have a team looking like this:
Gilchrist
Hayden
Ponting
Watson
Clarke

How Bevan can not be in the team is beyond me. he would probably be my first choice.

Funny!
What were the selectors thinking when they picked Symonds ahead of Clarke. Seems everyone here (or those who picked a side not only from the squad) thinks that Clarke is a better choise. I pesonally would say by far.

I think Clark proved to everyone that he has what it takes and his future elevation to the side should be sooner rather than later.
IMO Symonds is on his way out and should not be going to the WC. I am having a few negative thoughts about Michael Bevan too - great record but seems to be off the boil - and not fielding well either.

I'm impressed, a Bevan fan that didn't die of boredom on Sunday.

I like your side the most. Maybe replace Bichel with Maher if we are looking for a strong batting line up. Lehmann and Martyn could split 10.
Gilchrist
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
Lehmann
Bevan
Watson
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath
That is the starting XI in the eyes of the selectors.
Personally I would swap Watson with Clarke. Clarke can't really bowl at top level but neither can Watson but he still gets away with it. Whoever said Watson is a better bowler than Bichel should go back to the footy board. Watson is a terrible bowler, the guy doesn't even know the fundamentals of bowling, sure he has got a few wickets recently but not many through any fault of his own.
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Martyn
Bevan
Maher
Hogg
Warne
B.Lee
Gillespie
McGrath
Add in (maybe) lehmann after his suspension is done for Jimmy Maher.
Watson and Hogg are tough to split, with Hoggs fielding prevailing. If Gillespie does not pull up, id play Watson at 7 and hogg at 8, Warne at 9 etc.

I like that side - I think Hogg would do well in the World Cup, Sri Lanka and England are both struggling to pick him still......

12th - Symonds
Lee, Bichel, Maher.
Yes, and any team u pick MUST have andy symonds as 12th man. I hope the aussies put the Ranatunga strategy into effect and bowl either dizzy or pigeon straight thru their 10, so after the 20 over mark they can go off the field "injured" and replace them with andy symonds as sub fielder. The Sri Lanks exploited this one in 96 with their phatties like ranatunga and gurusinha.

but can you afford to carry a player through an entire tournament who if the opportunity should arise, would be incapable (on recent form) of getting runs and wickets v canada?? they only have four reserves. i thought it would have been wiser to steer clear of the specialist fielding option. half the guys in the pura cup could bat better than symonds, and thats with a blindfold on.

Yeah, why not? I know Watto needs to bat at four or five to be truly successful, but Warnie could be the lower-order hitter we lack and that's why i put him there. The batting depth is awesome.

Yeah, not a bad idea. Warne is basically an all-rounder anyway.

Watson
Warne
