Having lived on the Gold Coast in 1996 and 2003 and my brother in-law played in the local comp for a decade in the 80s and early 90s I have a bit of idea of the footy market up there. My brother in-law has signed up as a member of GCFC. He always said to me that a Southport stand alone side wouldn't work and when I was up there I spoke to a couple of their officials and they talked about how keen they were to try to get a licence. I think they had $20mil in the bank in 2003.

I know that Doc Mackenzie, Southport's president and the Mr Football of the GC is on the GCFG's board, but I am curious to find out if anyone knows if they will have a role with the GCFC given the $$$ they have, the players they attract because of the $$ they can pay players and can the $$ they put into the juniors.

Is there any talk of the players who wont play in the AFL side being aligned to Southport or will they be spread throughout the GC teams or the AFLQ teams as you have with the WAFL and SANFL?

Original QAFL theroy was to have them spread amongst GC QAFL teams, but I expect that will change with some other big pieces of news for our localcompetition over the next 18 months;)
