hmm kk, i asked him at the anzac day match (seriously, he was buying stuff from nandos with Neagle and Hooker) when he was back though, and he said next week. either wasnt chosen or isnt matchfit, i accept that.

Howz Houli progressing is he just ommited because you guys had a win last weekend or is he not in blistering form? or injured? He is one that I really thought would cement his spot in the 22 this year and have a better than average season.

He's currently in the emergencies and hasnt played in the AFL in a while

Hurley would have played for Bendigo this week but they have a bye. Isn't it amazing with all the talk about McVeigh and Didak last week that neither have even been named the following week. Just shows how much ANZAC Day means.

Interesting that they have gone with Hooker over Bellchambers, but atleast they are rewarding good form and should give Bellchambers a kick up the **** to perform in the next few weeks.

I think that if Bendigo were playing this week Myers would've been dropped, but he needs match fitness so is playing this week. They must really really rate him to continue to get matches into him at AFL level. Lets hope we can see some steady improvement over the next few weeks.

Best thing is that Nash isn't an emergency this week. Obviously Neagle and Williams have been named as emergencies to put some pressure on Lloyd and Lucas to fire.

Wrapped Leroy kept his spot too.

Will be interesting a selection next week if we have a win on Saturday night (and nobody gets injured).

I hope the core group can carry us once again.

HB: Troy Selwood, Joel Macdonald, Josh Drummond
C: Jared Brennan, Simon Black, Daniel Rich
HF: Michael Rischitelli, Jonathan Brown, Justin Sherman
F; Cheynee Stiller, Daniel Bradshaw, Luke Power
Foll: Mitch Clark, Travis Johnstone, Jed Adcock
Int: Scott Harding, Albert Proud, James Polkinghorne, Sam Sheldon, ,
Emg: Matt Austin, Lachlan Henderson, Pearce Hanley

Surprised they didn't give Belly a run against Brisbanes ruck division, thought it would be a good chance to give him a go, but perhaps not.

Matchups

Pears on Brown - Id be happy if Tayte was given Brown as he could probably keep up with him if his leading up to the wings and can get help from Fletch when closer to goal.

Bradshaw always kills us. With Darcy and Hurley missing it leaves a bit of a hole. He'll most likely stay close to home and the obvious matchup is Fletch but I'd prefer we give the job to Hooker, his got a bit of size to him and that allows Fletch to roam free for the chop out.

NLM on Rischitelli

Slattery to take Sherman

Not sure whether we tag Black and Power or just go head to head. Either way, we cant let them run free and do whatever they want.

We need to keep Drummond accountable, therefore I think McPhee would be a good match up for him.

Also wouldn't mind seeing Zaka and Rich go head to head.

Must keep the pressure on their half backs, the way they go is generally and indication of how their team is going. Guys like Adcock, Patful and Brennan must be paid respect.

Roe going out of the side is a surprise and works in our favor.

Harding coming in is one to watch as he gets a heap of the ball, but is poor user which we should exploit.

They'll be going in hard after last week... but they are definitely beatable. No ruckman and not as much depth in their midfield. Must keep the pressure on their defenders... protect the ball and when in doubt go to the goalsquare where hopefully someone will be.

Huge chance to beat em up there... must be switched on...

Courtenay Dempsey back in QLD... got a real good feeling about him for BOG...

Really happy with the side, its great now seeing the team on Thursdays and not seeing a player who's selection bewilders me...

Go the Bombers!!!

hmmm i picked this side, do i win any prizes?

I dont think Hooker was brought in as a back-up ruckman, i think they brought him in to play CHB on Brown. Pears to go to Bradshaw, with Fletcher picking up whoever he wants. Ryder to do the work most of the day, as Brisbane will be expecting Clark to do much the same thing.

You don't win wihtout a settled team either give the blokes a chance to get used to each other instead of throwing guys in and out and up and down.

Agree with a lot of your points, but the ones above I think show a lack of understanding of how Brisbane play.

Rischa is basically an extra midfielder and Sherman plays as a small marking forward of sorts. Personally I think NLM and Slattery should be swapped around for better positional match ups.

Also, your comments on Roe and Harding are surprising. Roe was HORRIBLE last week and has struggled for a while now at senior level. Harding is also a player completely different to that which you described. In the 2s he racks up a lot of touches and his disposal isn't great, but at AFL level he struggles to get near the footy (and his disposal isn't great).

Just my two cents...

Don't do it Knighter, McPhee needs to be as unnacountable as possible for us to win this give him Bradshaw and you may as well give the Lions a 30 point start at home as he's gauranteed to kick 5+ on McPhee in the goal square.

Fletcher must take whoever plays out of the square in Bradshaw or Brown and Pears on the other up field.

I had that feeling prior to the North game when he missed the Saturday morning session. You can see that he is gaining more and more confidence in his body each week. The last couple of weeks he has been exceptional in his efforts to back into packs and put his body on the line which is an area of his game we have never seen.

Now if only Neagle and Gumby could get fit...

If it were me I'd have dragged Lucas for Neagle and put Belly on against Brisbanes ruck division.

It's crazy that we're not giving Belly a hit out... especially considering where we are with Hille. We need to find out sooner rather than later whether Belly can be a backup ruck. Are we going to test him against Hawks or Saints instead? Poor move that one Knighter.

Why the rush ?
I'm sure he will play against one of ST Kilda or Hawthorn.

You pick the side on form and match ups. TBC has no form to speak of and there are no match ups for him either.

Knights and the MC have definitely made the right move this week.

Couldn't agree more, he did some similar things against the Blues a couple of weeks back as well.

Why does he need a match up?

Here's our chance to get an ascendancy in the ruck yet we decide to break even at best with a pinch hitter?

Here's our chance to blood Belly against lesser rucks and get him ready for a pretty tough next month but we don't.

I agree with you there, but as others have alluded to on here, his form has not been crash hot at Bendigo, where as Cale has been the only real standout commanding a place in the seniors with some very consistantly good performances, promoting Hooker to the side is an insurance policy if one of Pears/Fletcher or Mcphee struggle on one of Brown or Bradshaw, so he will be used in a defensive post rather than a mobile ruckmen as people may suggest, he may have some stints, but he will be used; i think, predominantly down back.

Hopefully we can get some real run into some of the boys already back from injury (lonergan), and get an extended run into some of the injury prone boys (dempsey). Should be a good contest, and am hoping that Hocking has a blinder (against Black:p) and Fletcher has a day out down back too.

Well done to the champ, some people may say he is not a champion of the game because sheedy never seemed to play him on the true power forwards, but to play 30 league games is a senstaional effort. well done Dustin Fletch.

Lol much?

Just because he has 'ruckman' next to his name doesn't mean that he's going to be any good at it at AFL level.

Ryder is a far far far better option than Bellchambers in the ruck and so that's where he's going to play. And Hooker is just going to pinch hit and then be useful elsewhere on the ground. Bellchambers has not shown that he'd make much of an impact in the ruck, nor has he shown he'd do much around the ground.

Oh wait, I remembered who I'm replying to... what a waste of time...

What madness drove them to pick Hooker as a ruck backup?

Unbelievable...

For those saying Hooker won't be rucking, please see below.

Best 22: Hooker gets his chance in the ruck

Assistant coach Gary O’Donnell is excited that Cale Hooker will get the opportunity to support Patrick Ryder in the ruck this weekend against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/news.asp?nid=6557

Hooker hasn't played as a ruckman in the senior level, apart from the one quarter he got to play in the last Bendigo game. This is school boy stuff by the coaching staff.

Play Hooker as a defender and throw Fletcher in the ruck to support Ryder... that would have been atleast realistic to expect that. Sheedy and Ryan O'Connor all over again.

Hookers like the next tallest and was chosen because he could play in defence as well.
196 cm
and Bellchambers isnt ready.
Also, playing Fletcher in the ruck isnt realistic at all,
Bradshaw and Brown are in the forward line, he's much more needed down there.
and lastly, Mitch Clark is in their Ruck, as their main ruckman(198, also because he's next tallest)so dont worry.
