Werribee Tigers vs. Box Hill Hawks
Sunday 3rd May Chirnside Park at 2.00pm
By Daniel Dufty
After successive victories, Box Hill Hawks continues their fine form against Werribee this Sunday 3rd May at Chirnside Park.
Last time these two teams played Werribee ran away with a 60 point win in Round 18. After a close first half, a fade out in the second proved costly as the Tigers lifted their tackling and dominated the centre cruising to victory.
Werribee after beating Bendigo in Round 2, were demolished by ladder leaders Williamstown by 66 points at Burbank Oval. Box Hill come in with the upper hand, but must be cautious of Werribee. Ex-Bulldog Marty Pask and Former Hawthorn/North Melbourne forward Nathan Thompson goalless in Round 3 look to counteract last week’s lacklustre nine-scoring shots in the teams 3.6.24.
Moving away from home, Box Hill secure in the top eight looks to add to their tally.
Brendan Bolton a breath of fresh air to the club has been the catalyst to the Hawks form.
With an impressive start to the season looking brighter every week, expect again the Box Hill Hawks outfit to turn the tables on last years result. The teams will be playing for the inaugural Beyond Blue Cup.
Head to Head:
Played 72: Box Hill Hawks: 33, Werribee Tigers 39
Last Time:
Box Hill Hawks: 3.4 / 6.9 / 6.10 / 7.15 (57)
Werribee Tigers: 5.2 / 8.2 / 14.9 / 18.9 (117)
Goals: Neville 2, Dawson 2, Boyle, Morton, Grima
Best: Whitecross, Kennedy, Morrell, Pedersen, Breese, Tuck
Players To Watch:
Brad Neil: Strong defensive player across the Hawks backline.
Development Team:
After holding Coburg last weekend by 27 points, the team travels to Werribee. The Development Team previously having played Werribee in Round 17 last year came away with the four points 20.19.139 to 8.6.54.
Destroying their opposition, Box Hill posted 25 more scoring shots and over 100 more possessions in a clinical display.
Chris Hoegel has been unstoppable this season with eight goals again hoping to be problematic for the Tigers. After a pleasing team effort last weekend, nothing looks stop the teams run at Chirnside Park.

Both the firsts and seconds have had two good wins to start the season. What makes the firsts wins very pleasing is the fact that Northern Bullants [Carlton] and Coburg Tigers [Richmond] have both won their two other games and also they had 15 and 14 AFL listed players respectively compared to our 7. This week we have the advantage of 9 to 7 AFL listed players however that will mean nothing if we drop off in our intensity.
Ben Kennedy is listed as an interchange in the seconds and could make his debut for BH after missing the first two games with an injury. Bull, Fagan, Nye & Warby are the firsts interchange players who have been listed in the seconds.
It will be great if some Big Footy Hawks venture down to Werribee so we can receive some reports on our players in both games.
go hawks!!!

I'll be heading down with my brother. Will post a few thoughts after the game- probably after 6.30 tonight.
Hopefully the wind isn't blowing from the poop farm!
If BMac burns it up in the first half they might rest him late in prep for Friday's game against Essendon. Can someone keep an eye out for this please.. Ta.
Quarter time (I think).
Werribee: 5.4.34
Box Hill: 2.3.15
Radio here: http://srv1.mel.apstream.net/3wbc_relay
Box Hill bag one early in the second as I was typing to go to 3.3.21.
Sounds like Goldstein is tearing it up in the ruck for Werribee. Gibson getting plenty of mentions.
Sounds like Yze has hurt himself, I think they said I knee, but I only just turned it back on.
Werribee: 9.6.60
Box Hill: 5.3.33
Late in the 2nd, commentators have said Nathan Thompson is causing trouble, he has 3.
Werribee get another point and go in 6.7.61 at half time.
2 goals to Boyle, 1 each to Schoenmakers, Yse and Lisle (not certain on Lisle, I think that's what they said).

Yze has a knee and ankle injury - not major though. Might miss a week or two according to club when they informed the commentators.

Good news. Heard little bits and pieces on the radio - losing Yze for an extended period of time would have been a huge loss.

any news on the reserves
bigbol069
3 May 2009, 18:49
Reserves won by 13 points, or close enough to, played really good footy except some over use of handball on occasion and controlled most of the game until giving away 3 or 4 goals near the end to make it seem close. Unfortunately one of the boys did an ACL.
In the reserves Sierakowski was a standout and must play Box Hill 1's soon, while Breust was solid. Muston played 3 quarters as planned and despite not having a standout game across half forward, he got through it well.:thumbsu:
In the seniors despite the 21 point loss, Kennedy and McGlynn were fantastic as was Boyle until his injury. Liked the look of Lisle and thought he was excellent at full back on Thompson. Thommo kicked a few but given the amount of inside 50's Werribee had, we can definitely look at Lisle with great optimism for a future at Hawthorn. The other Hawthorn listed boys had their moments without any standout performances.
Thorp was in a moon boot, with a prominent limp and didn't play. Didn't see Stokes. You all know about Boyle suffering what looks a serious injury to his leg after taking another good mark. Yze was hurt but from reports is not too serious despite not looking good either.

Great news about Lisle. Sounds like he is continuing to develop. Why the Hawks haven't asked BH to play Lisle as a key defender every game is beyond me.
Sad news about Boyler. Given we have to delist at least three this year, he doesn't want to be out injured for too long, as we don't have too many obvious candidates for delisting.

Boyle had been having a terrific game up until he was injured. Fingers crossed the news is better than what it looked.

I'll add my two cents. Agree with the above and thought Schoenmakers had a good game also.
The big difference to me (being the first BH game I have got to this year) is the quality of the non BH players. Those who have been there are doing better (Kenna, Pedersen, et al) while some of the new chums (Iles, Yze, Curnow and Bello) are doing very well indeed. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Barry Mitchell is no longer coaching this squad.
Werribee were bigger, worked harder without the ball in their hands and had better skills. Lisle did well on Thompson considering the laces out service he was getting.

Sorry for the delay in the reply, halfback.
Very much a stay at home traditional FB type of game. I don't get the impression he is all that quick to be honest.
Not a lot of opportunity to run and carry from that far back. Werribee are a well organised unit and had plenty of pressure across half forward when they coughed it up.
In terms of body work, he was astute I thought. Gave away 5cm and perhaps 10kg to Thommo, so it was late side contact to allow a jump at the ball.
He's a kid and he did well against an experienced AFL forward getting good service. I would say that I don't expect an AFL debut in 2009 though.

Lisle is listed at 196cm. Thommo is 194cm. Would definitely have given away over 10Kg in weight, though, not to mention shitloads of experience.
