Gee i hate mainstream music.

So now HipHop is cool b/c of white boy enema?

I feel for those acts that have been trying to cut the mustard for years hoping to catch a ride of the hype wagon.

Its been past soo many times..now its enemas turn.

I watched 8mile and basically it sucks. Appeals to white trash yeah but same ol tired story.

Kepp buying those pop records kiddies.

There was a time, about 15 to 20 years ago, when I liked mainstream music.

But seeing that I'm forced to listed to Gold FM to find something I like, I think its time to admit that I am just no longer interested.

There should be a GOLD104 version of JJJ.

It should play classic alternative music - early REM, the Smiths, Patti Smith, the Church, Velvet Underground, the Doors, Alice Cooper, the Specials, Husker Du, Billy Bragg, Nick Cave, Arrested Development, Violent Femmes, etc etc etc.

The problem with JJJ (the only station that plays decent music) is that it has a short memory. The only time you ever hear these old classic bands is on MMM, very infrequently, but you have to listen to hours uopn hour of Nickleback and Matchbox 20 first.

Just keep buying those CDS kiddies that are on labels owned by the companies that put out the films(keep watching those as well kids),read the papers and watch the news reports who are put together by the companies whose majority shareholders also have shares in the companies that make the CDS and films and so on and so on.

Ive given up on mainstream altogether...theres plenty of quality tunes out there which dont get airplay, in any genre, if you look hard enough

Im hating the emergence of RNB...whenever it gets played its like some kind of bugle calling all ****s and horny ethnics to the dancefloor.

Im abandoning all plans to see 8 mile on your call there Frosties...seriously...

Watch it for the battle scenes. The freestyling is awesome.

But see it for yourself. I am only one of a handful of people who have seen it and don't like it that i have spoken to.

I am just sick of mainstream thats all. You try to ignore it and but its everywhere.

And the Triffids, David Bowie, Blondie, Regurgitator, House Of Pain, Nirvana, New Order, Iggy Pop, PJ Harvey, even a few lesser known songs from the Stones and the Beatles would be ok too.

I remember thinking some years ago that maybe instead of radion stations advertising "the best of the 60's, 70's and 80's, one might actually add the 90's to their portfolio. How silly I was.

That said, when Triple J plays Nirvana or another early 90s band, I always think about how dated that is....the average theoretical listener was aged from 6 to 10 when that song was popular and new. I like that they keep on with the new stuff....if i really want to hear stuff from 10 years ago, thats what my CD collection is for.

the battle scenes are probably the best part, but the stealing of the karate kid film plot is the low point,

I agree. But all the old stuff you hear is middle of the road crap - they should diversify their playlists when playing "classics"

Add Jane's Addiction to my list.

I'd listen to that anyday. Instead the Stones and Beatles only wrote like 6 songs between them according to Gold FM

I rarely listen to the radio anymore. I have given up. It is all the same... even 3RRR isn't what it used to be. :(

Preaching to the choir here mate.

Those of us who like Pink Floyd generally wouldn't mind hearing something else besides Another Brick in the Wall Part II every once in a blue moon.

If you are in possession of entire back catalogues of bands like this, PLAY IT!

Does any radio station ever play "One Of These Days I'm Going To Cut You Into Little Pieces"?

Or "Careful With That Axe Eugene"?

Or "See Emily Play"?

Or do they all think that "The Dark Side Of The Moon" was the Floyd's debut album?

Do they even know that Syd Barrett was the main man in Pink Floyd? Imagine hearing Lucifer Sam or Interstellar Overdrive on commercial radio.

Yep fully agree.
Why is it that they always play the same classics?
Why not play Young Lust or Time?
Not Now John is awesome yet I've never heard it on radio.
