i heard this passing by on the radio at least a week ago, but haven't heard anything since.
has anyone else heard that wisden will take over cricket's official website??
apparantly cricinfo are making you subscribe to live match coverage during the world cup so they (wisden) can work out the demographics they will be targeting.
probably explains why i can't connect to the site at the moment.

errr... how?
I think the wisden taking over cricinfo story has been around for two months now.
I thought the story was that Wisden and The Cricketer magazine were merging.

Thats already happened as I understand. The Wisden/CricInfo thing is still to happen.

Haven't heard anything about a merger, although it wouldn't surprise me.
Cricinfo is running crap at the moment, presumably because of some MSSQL virus. I can get in no probs via the Sri Lankan mirror, but it is rubbish, still saying that Vaughn is leading a fightback.
The subscription thing could be to stop people like me from accessing the high speed mirrors, which is pretty simple at the moment.

I can still access it no probs.
Surely with all the betting sponsorship on that site (and with the traffic it must get) they don't need member access to keep it alive

In early December there was a message saying you had to subscribe to become a member by the Boxing Day test match, now I see they pushed it bck until the World Cup.
If they made it paid-membership only... would you pay to get the states and live score updates or find new sources?

im pretty sure the subscription will be free. they are just doing it to work out the market they are targeting (age, location, other interests) so they can best direct their advertising.
if it removes those pop up ads, im all for this takeover. i have no intention of buying india's world cup shirt, or steve waugh's MRF bat.
Couldn't agree more Nicko, the bloody pop-ups are too annoying, and with my clunky old PC they slow it all up too much, so if they go I'm all for it.
I actually get the cricinfo email everyday and I noticed a little while ago that it suddenly got a lot crappier - no Aus domestic news at all, and less reports with more ads. So if they can fix that up it will be good too.
