View Full Version : How and why did they change our jumper?

How did the club get away with this? Our sash used to run from the left shoulder to the right hip and now it's more like a long fish hook. It is really noticeable on the side of players. It looks terrible. Maybe I am the only one who cares but **** me our jumper is our fkn jumper and it should not be changed without the club informing the members of any changes. Isn’t there something in our club constitution that states this? I don’t give a toss about clash jumpers but any changes to our jumper is a no go zone in my opinion. Ah well, being round 7 is coming up and no one has said anything I should let it ride. Who knows maybe by 2012 the sash will become a hoop.

Yeah you weren't the only one that noticed, but you may be the only one that cares.

Nah he is not the only one who cares.

I care passionately about our jumper and the OP is right. The old jumper is a million times better than this latest tragedy.

The sash has changed many times over the years, it used to be stick thin now it turns a bit. As long as it stays Black Jumper Red Sash I don't really care.

What i'm worried about is our match against St Kilda, anyone have the adidas design for our clash jumper?

Yeah but that was 50 years ago bloke and that was only in regards to the width of the sash now they have changed the entire design of the jumper. To me it is not the same jumper and I am dissapointed that our supporters have rolled over on this one.

It's a disgrace and I'm seriously thinking about stopping supporting the Club due to this horrible Jumper. It's a disgrace to think our Club doesn't care about the Jumper.

Carlton here I come

Yes I agree that our jumper is black with a red sash and I don't mind minimal fiddling, but the latest version just looks wrong. The droop is wrong and the sleeves are wrong. behind the shoulder the jumper is all floppy (as is the Collingwood Adidas jumper)

It terms of a clash jumper I am not against them, I would happily watch our team run out in all red for instance. Red jumper, red, shorts, red socks. It would be pretty dam easy to pick the team that I was going for.

I for one do believe that clashes exist in footy.

i prefer the traditional design too. The current saggy design looks very average. I reckon the traditional straight sash design looks more aggressive.

Grow up spikey.

I really don't see the issue. We've changed the sash? I haven't even noticed it. It's not as if we've got a brand new jumper like Carlton...

Or maybe this is the 3rd time I've seen this topic and I'm getting sick of it.

Anyway, I won't grow up. It's a jumper ffs. And a very minor change.

I don't particularly love it, but neither do I really care.

What I do understand are commercial realities. I understand that both Samsung, particularly, and Adidas have paid the club a lot of money and want some differentiation.

Anyone who hasn't considered that, should

this is not a new issue either. IIRC, the guernsey design was significantly changed for the 2000 season. The saggy sash was introduced then.

Nah the Fila jumper's sash was relatively straight like the traditional jumper.

It changed to the saggy sash when puma took over.

look at picture - "Pre-season, 2000
James Hird holds the 2000 Ansett Cup aloft"

Looks fairly saggy to me.

EDIT: Looking at 1999 now, appears saggy too so disregard the above.

Would be the third time this has come up and it is really a who cares thread.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling

Some people have too much time on their hands if they are sitting around worrying about the angle of the sash.

isn't it more that the jumpers are now skin tight on some players, and it stretches the front/back around to the side?

that's what it looks like to me.

I'm glad this came up.

I care because the saggy sash is s***.

The sash is no longer an angle. It looks like an arc.

I don't like the idea of bending to the whims of sponsors.

We have the product.
They and every other multi-national want their name on the product because the product and its support stands.
People don't follow EFC because of the sponsor. The sponsors chase the club because people follow the club. So f*** the sponsor, straighten the sash. The sponsor will still want their name on the product.

you do realise that if you actually wore a real sash, then it would be saggy? In truth, the current version if far more accurate than the old version

I would have thought it would depend on the tightness of the sash
Given the potential for injury as a result of a limb becoming somehow entangled in the sash, I would envisage a tight sash, and thus a straight sash... and now I really do feel as though I have too much time.

Anyway, I vote straight sash.

I vote I don't really care.

Jumper looks fine to me.

I think it's actually the reason why we've had such a horrific run of injuries.
