I always assumed it was brain washing.

Wonder if 'anonymous' will have a go at a capture/reprogramme mission?

This sounds like quite a good film, reading the description in the opening post.

I hope the film is an eerie sort of horror film, as I think these are better to films that use full on horror. One good example was the original Amityville Horror from 1979. Set in an ordinary suburban house, the scary parts of the film are more eerie and implied, rather than graphic and full-on. For example, the shots of the Dutch Colonial house at night show the quarter moon attic windows illuminated like eyes; the mother puts her young daughter to bed at night and closes the door and the child's rocking chair begins moving back & forward; and the family are asleep upstairs while doors open & close by themselves downstairs. These scenes are very effective because the family in the film sees nothing, but as the viewers we know that dangerous unseen forces are at work in the house.

It's impossible for the film to become 'quite a good film' with Katie Holmes as the lead star. She couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

Anything with Guillermo del Toro involved is bound to be good.

If your hanging around the City of Melbourne today....Exhibition / Collins Street end of town you will see cars parked on the wrong side of the road & a traffic jam. Lots of cars with US number plates. All representing a scene from Providence, the State Capital of Rhode Island, U.S.A.

Doubtful that you will get close enough to see Ms Holmes though as she will be in her trailer most of the time.

Principal Photography will end tonight as the production moves to the Post-Production phase.

Besides Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce this movie has included a number of Australian film & tv legends - Jack Thompson & Julia Blake.

All may not be quiet for long in Melbourne with the possibility of one of Hollywood's current top 10 actors coming out to make a movie in early January 2010.

"off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush."

Just an update.

don't Be Afraid Of The Dark coming out January 2011.

Producer GDT and Director Troy Nixey talk about DBAOTD

http://chud.com/articles/articles/24520/1/PRE-COMIC-CON-INTERVIEW-GUILLERMO-DEL-TORO-amp-TROY-NIXEY/Page1.html

"The 70's were the golden age of great TV horror films, Dan Curtis and Lorimar both cranked some remerkable ones: Bad Ronald, Night Stalker, Night Strangler, The Norliss Tapes, Trilogy of Terror, Something Evil, etc, etc And there was a great melding of the classic and the modern. In a strange way, they brought horror to suburbia and urban environments before "Big Studios" films did.

But they had elegant, classic Gothic tales at their core.I always loved and will always love the classic Gothic tale and love to dabble in it as producer quite a bit- but if possible with a twist. The film we did follows a classic, classy model but it still received an "R" for pervasive scariness- to me, that's a nice badge already. We got it in spite of not having any cursing, sexual situations or graphic gore. We got it because we were scary."

Wow, an 'R' rating without sex, gore and language but because it is scary...wow

Night Stalker. Going off topic but I remember that TV series from 1974. Very very scary & spooky. Darren McGavin & Simon Oakland starred in the series.

If DBA is along the lines of the original night stalker then this could be very very good.

Haha my brother was an extra in this. He said Katie (& Tom who dropped by the set) seemed really nice and Guy Pearce was a HUGE diva, having hissy fits when the director told him to turn left instead of right during scenes 'I DIDNT PRACTICE IT THAT WAY' sort of thing :D

Hmm, interesting. Not that many extras on that film. I know he wouldnt be the big African American who played a cop....unless there's something your not telling us Ham :D

Katie was lovely. Every afternoon she would take little Suri to the ice cream shop @ Harbourtown for a treat.

As regards Guy Pearce, cannot agree at all. Lovely man. Very humble. He even introduced himself as Guy Pearce working on DBA - I mean really, I did sort of know that fact, but still very nice of him.

He would eat with the crew and even got Katie into coming over and eating with the crew. Very unusual as most have their Cast PA to bring food over to their trailer. He was entitled to a car and driver yet chose to drive himself to set every day in a 'P' reg quality car but one that had done some miles if it was a P rego.
