Theming theft and a thankyou from Knights

Essendon themed Etihad Stadium on Friday night but one component proved a little too popular.
A 3.8metre high, three-sided image of Matthew Lloyd, Mark McVeigh and Paddy Ryder (see image) was stolen towards the end of the game inside Gate 7.

The club is calling on the offenders to return it to Etihad Stadium or Windy Hill – no questions asked – as it cost $1,500 and is needed for all future home games.

Customer marketing manager, Nick Truelson, said the theming has been created so all Essendon supporters can enjoy an Essendon cauldron at home games and for someone to steal part of it hurts the club and its fans.

Mr Truelson said the club believes there is CCT vision of the theft but is hoping this won’t be needed and the images will be returned to Etihad Stadium or Windy Hill in good faith.

On a more positive note, Matthew Knights has recorded a special thankyou message to fans following Friday night's big win against the Hawks.

I would have thought the club would have a spare $1500 lying around somewhere....

I doubt that if they had the CCT vision they would give the offer of 'return it no questions asked'

Likely would. The time and effort in using it then reclaiming it that way would probably cost $1500 or more.

What is wrong with people?

It better not be an Essendon fan. :thumbsd:

Not to mention the giant 3 sided image was inside the ground and no one would have stopped to think it would be a bit unusual to see someone carrying a giant picture out of the building.

I can't understand how it could be stolen without anyone noticing "towards the end of the game".

I'm not trying to absolve the person who took it, or lay blame at the clubs feet. But seriously, who didn't see this coming? As soon as I heard about the theme thing I thought the chances of graffitti or worse were at the very least possible. I would have thought we have enough money to pay someone to walk around and make sure everything was present and untouched, it isn't going to cost that much. We are pretty cheap.

Careful rainman. That almost sounds like you're offering justification for taking it.

As roguish (sp?) as the theft is, what a prize! Let's hope it's in the hands of someone who loves it, rather than someone who doesn't. What if someone has put glasses on Lloyd?! ...or given McVeigh a pencil moustache and a black eye?!! ...or given Paddy a handlebar like Dipper?!!!

If someone managed to get that out without anyone noticing then perhaps we should draft them and play them in the midfield. Must have an uncanny knack for avoiding tackles.

Knights wouldn't be impressed with their defensive side, though.
