Don't quote me but i think the national under 18 championship starts this weekend , and a few Melb teams will be under strength.

I've heard we have won the game on protest , apparently the goal umpires did'nt count the score right. , Fowler had kicked a goal on 3 quarter time siren , given the all clear but not put on scoreboard. From todays game i thought Fowler was a standout , has impressed in most games this season , will not be KP in AFL terms but more a Murphy , Edwards type , Jack Stanley will be a player , tall , fast and good hands , just needs to get more of it imo. Haberfield started well today then had his pants pulled down by Parker who looked handy today.

Found that H. Hibberd is playing for Frankston in the VFL. Thought i would just clear that up.

I was at the game and its was such a terrible feeling. I thought that if a game had been signalled correct weight by the Goal Umpires and signed off , how can you change the score without having a hearing???? The score should have read that the Stingrays won by 1 point until such time as an appeal was lodge. By doing it this way it opens up a whole can of worms if you change the score card after!!! You are stating that your Goal Umpires are incompetant (by the way BOTH goal umpires had only 3 goals on the scorecards for the 3rd qtr not 4).....therefore with some very bad desicions made yesterday, does that give the Stingrays right of return by appeal. There was definately a goal or 2 kicked by dandenong that should have been a goal and said to be a point. If you can change a score card after a game is signalled final and scores correct, by viewing a DVD then there should be NO reason not to change for the other mistakes the goal umpires made on the day. The Presidence as been set!!!!. Also this should have been dealt with at the end of the 3rd qtr as both teams would have known the true position that they were in. The whole manner in the way this was handled by Goast Coast staff (not players) reeks of unsportsmanlike behaviour.
That said it was a tough fought out hard slog, not pretty. Stingrays did a great job without 8 of the boys due to Viv Metro and Vic Country committments.
Poor form GC. Congrats to the Stingrays coach, he handled it very well.
Keep an eye out on this one, I am not sure it will go away anytime soon.
Go Rays!

I guess you were with the coach when he was told of the news? If the umpires stuffed up then it should be fixed. The stingrays lost so just accept it.

Why is is poor form GC?? It is not their fault a mistake was made.

The Sunday Mail here claims that it was the Dandenong manager (Darren Flanigan) who showed good sportsmanship by agreeing to reverse the decision on the spot.

If an error is made that can easily be rectified, why not fix it there and then.?

Poor form?! The goal umps didn't register a goal that was kicked by the GC in the third term. Straight forward decision - both teams looked at the footage after the game and agreed that GC won it fair and square

I didnt say I was disputing the goal kicked. I am disputing the way it was handled and if you can call the competancy of the umpires into question , which has been done in this game, then the other deciscions they made during the game ....which are on the same DVD should be able to be question. CARRARA WIN ALMOST WASN'T FOR GCFC
17.05.09
IT was the win that almost wasn’t for the Gold Coast Football Club, who defeated the Dandenong Stingrays by four points in a controversial clash at Carrara on Saturday.
The Coast’s record is now three wins, two losses and a draw following the nail-biting 9-10 (64) to 8-12 (60) victory.

But the win only came after AFL Victoria overturned the result, which initially had Dandenong as one-point victors after the umpires gave the all-clear at the final siren.

The scoreboard had the scores level when a Dandenong player marked it 25m on a slight angle after the final siren.

He managed a point and his teammates were ecstatic thinking they had won, while the Coast trudged off a shattered lot.

But the GCFC coaching staff were right on to it and aware of the goal umpiring indiscretion.

Stingrays manager Darren Flanigan agreed to reverse the outcome because the goal umpires signalled, but failed to record, a major to Gold Coast's Matthew Fowler after the three-quarter time siren.

The win was a relief for the Gold Coast, who were up by 14 points at the last change.

The Stingrays looked to have the legs in the final term and came close to snatching the win.

A goal after the siren by the Stingrays player would have meant a one-point win to the visitors.

But it wasn’t to be and the Coast prevailed.

GCFC’s Alik Magin was best on ground, while Matt Fowler – who booted four goals – and Jack Stanley were also influential.

But forward Liam Rutledge is expected to miss the remainder of the season after a suspected broken leg.

How?? what did the Gold Coast do ??

I have to ask, how do both goal umpires bugger up a goal they've signalled and waved their flags for? One maybe, but both?

AND I'd like to ask...is there not a scoreboard in use at the ground? If so, pretty slack by the CG staff to not get straight onto getting it correct within 5 mins of the last quarter starting.

You can only assume that ONE umpire, the wrong one, talked the other one into accepting his scorecard. How could they both miss a goal?

Well the scoreboard had the right score at 3 quarter time , but changed it at the start of the 4th , on the drafts board it says one of the goal umpires was a 13 year old , that might explain things.

Decisions by umpires cannot be changed even if they were blatantly incorrect . However this isn't about decisions .It's about correctly recording events during the game . Nothing has been changed except there is now a true record of events . Decisions cannot be changed because that would mean the direction
of the game would be need to be altered .e.g. A goal that was touched would require a kick-in instead of a centre bouncedown , but a goal that was incorrectly recorded can be rectified with no repercussions .
P.S> There have been other examples historically .

Hey guys, i know you probably wouldn't have been watching the Dandenong team that closely but if you could, could any of you tell me how these players went?
- Luke Parker
- Dylan Roberton
- Rohan Bleeker
- Jarrad Amalfi
- Ben Wells

Luke is probably the best out of them, kicked 3 and i think is #2? Don't hold me to that though. Dylan and Jarrad also got in the best along with Luke, so just interested to see if you guys noticed them and how they went.
