The original, by Don Mclean. Does any know, or have the 'American Pie' album? The 2nd song on the LP is the one I am looking for (the first song on the LP was of course 'American Pie'). I can't remember the name of it, and I am trying to track down a copy of it somewhere to give my mum.

I had a quick search on the internet and I think the song you are after is 'Til Tomorrow'.

The second track on The very best of Don McLean is Vincent . "Starry starry night..."

This was a very popular song and may br the one you're thinking of.

Till Tomorrow is a great song. Is this the one youre looking for? It has the lyrics
"What can this be, can you tell me
I would like to dicscover why where not free
To be lovers"

etc etc

American Pie is a very very underrated album.

Thanks folks!

It might have been The best of... album we used to have here, as I am pretty sure the song I was thinking of is 'Vincent'. For the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the song. All that kept going thru my head was...

Starry starry night
paint your palette blue and grey
look out on a summers day
with eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and daffodills
catch the breeze and winter chills..........

Then I'd get stuck !!!!!!!
