View Full Version : West Indies Tour Squad
What's everybody's predictions of who will make the squad?
Definties
Matthew Hayden
Justin Langer
Ricky Pointing
Damien Martyn
Steve Waugh (If he wants to go of course)
Darren Lehmann
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Brett Lee
Jason Gillespie
Glen McGrath
Maybes
Martin Love (although, after his showing in the 4th test, im pretty sure he'll go)
Brad Williams
Shane Watson
Micheal Clarke
Nathan Hauritz
Unlucky's
Andy Bichel
Brad Hogg
Stuart McGill
The reason why i think those 3 will miss out is because I think the selectors will want to go with some younger guys because our team is starting to get a bit on now and they'll want to blood some new guys.
Is this squad for the ODI's aswell? If not, I doubt Watson and Hauritz would go (although I hope they do).

Where is Elliot for the tests.
I mean he's averaged 55 this summer.
M.Hayden
J.Langer
R.Ponting
D.Martyn
S.Waugh
M.Love
A.Gilchrist
S.Warne
B.Lee
J.Gillespie
G.McGrath
D.Lehmann
A.Bichel
M.Clarke
B.Hogg (pending how he bowls at the cup)
How many are taken? 15?
This would be my 1st choice test squad:
Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
S Waugh
Lehmann
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath
Noffke
Hauritz
Clarke
Love
Unlucky: Bichel, Watson, Katich, Hussey etc
Obviously players like Love and S Waugh will leave for the ODI's and be replaced by Watson and Bevan (hopefully Tugga makes it back to the ODI side though).

In the line for S.Waugh's spot once he retires. Atleast behind the following players, at his age, Elliot has no chance of ever playing for Australia again.
M.Love
M.Clarke
S.Katich
M.Hussey
G.Blewett
M.Bevan
I reckon Michael Slater has more chance anf that is saying something. Pity though, I thought he was going to become a good test player at one stage.
Love must go. He seems to be a natural test batsman.
How could anyone consider Simon Katich? This overrated dud should never represent Australia again and it is a disgrace he has played a test. Clarke should get it ahead of Katich if they were in contention.

What about Leahman he was 32 and Elliot is 31

Lehmann was #1 on the waiting list though, Elliot isn't in the top 5 and at 31 isn't going to climb his way to the top of the list any time soon.
IMO this would be the line waiting for Steve Waugh's spot:
1. Martin Love
2. Michael Clarke
3. Mike Hussey
4. Shane Watson
5. Simon Katich
Katich's bowling has improved and that may help him force his way back into the Australian side.
Infact he has just taken his 6th wicket against the Vics.

Watson would need to substantially improve his batting to be selected in the test team. Players like Blewett and Bevan are much better batsmen than Watson is.
Personally what I think might happen is that in the near future Love and Clarke will replace Waugh and Lehmann, especially if Lehmann continues his poor form into the Windies tour.
I agree that Clarke is a better batsman than Watson at the moment. but I was surprised to see that they both average 38 at first class level. I would have thought Clarke would have averaged around 50, and Watson around 30.

A lot depends on whether Steve Waugh goes.
I'm working on the assumption that they'll take 14 for the Tests, then fly in replacements for the one-dayers. The 14 I'd take are:
Hayden
Langer
Ponting
S. Waugh (c)
Martyn
Lehmann
Love
Gilchrist (wk)
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath
Bichel
Noffke
If Steve Waugh retires, I'd pick Michael Clarke to replace him in the squad.

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Martyn
S.Waugh (Lehmann)
Love
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath
Xtras
Clarke
Hogg
Bichel
Williams
P.S. Lehmann will only go if S.Waugh retires (which I think he will)
