Has anyone else bought this book? Read it? If so, what's it like?

Just ordered my copy a few days ago and am quite keen to get it into my mits.

Hopefully it's as good as the Illustrated History hardback that came out a few years ago.

i've only spent a hour or so on it and i'm nearly halfway through.

a little disappointed to be honest. i actually expected it to be a little more comprehensive.

what i have read is good though. learnt a few things about the early 80's that i didn't know a lot about.

probably not worth the $50 (and it's definitely not as good as the illustrated history), but if most of the profits go to the club, i don't mind so much.

you'll get it pretty quick though. i ordered it on a saturday and got it the following monday!

I'm about halfway through it. It's a very interesting read, but not quite as good as the Illustrated History.

A bit overpriced too IMO.

Shaddup you.

I think I only paid $39.. discounting so soon?

It'd be hard to top the Illustrated History and I'd urge any Bombers fan to get their hands on a copy of that if they could because it's a fantastic publication. Some of the photos are just gold. The one of John Coleman urging the team on from the changerooms at Windy Hill sticks out in my mind. You can't quite see his whole face but the body language speaks volumes.

Okay I've almost finished this book and I've found it a very enjoyable and at times interesting read.

I just read something about the appointment of Knights that I wasn't aware of.

Peter Jackson is quoted as saying that Hardwick had his final presentation loaded up onto his Hawthorn owned laptop and Hawthorn confiscated it or something. He was then forced to reload his presentation onto another computer and when he went to present it stuffed up. Apparently he cracked the shits and the board was less than impressed.

This is the reason, Jackson states, that Hardwick missed out on the job.

Jackson also stated that he was personally against Hardwick because of the type of player he was and admitted knowing nothing about his coaching ability.

Was anyone else aware of this?

currently at chapter 2. So far learnt what people mean by off field stability is important to a club. Also learning of Sheedys revolutionary mind set. The sources of stuff is mostly sheeds bio and HS articles so far but

Brilliant. Saved me transcribing it. :thumbsu:

I find it quite surprising that, given the circumstances of his failure at the final interview, they wouldn't have given him another chance. To fail someone due to technical problems caused, essentially, by another club's meddling is gobsmacking to me.

I'm certainly not unhappy with Knights although I'll admit I was a bit dubious at first. I just find the circumstances surprising.

There's quite a few references to the Illustrated History book as well which, as I've said before, is outstanding. A lot of the pictures in Glory and Fame are also from the Illustrated History.

That's pretty interesting. I don't know if I would prefer Hardwick to Knights.
