The most well spoken guest that has been on the show and I have been watching it since it started. Our next captain. :thumbsu:

Don't think he would of lost many fans tonight. A very, very impressive young man.
He handled the captaincy question well, but I'd expect him to be the (C) when Lloyd retires in a couple of years.

Jobe is a very impressive young man. Very impressive. I'd always thought he'd make a good captain, but now I know he would.
He is a thoughtful, intelligent, articulate man who commands respect.
Well done Jobe!

What else would you expect from a young bloke with a great education? Extremely well spoken. Thought about his answers before giving them. Handled that curly one with ease from Mike, regarding the comparison with Sheeds and Knights. Concise, honest answers, but always keeping a level head about it and in perspective.
I'm glad there was a thread on him when I came on to your board, as I didn't want to start a thread solely on the topic that I wanted to talk about - which is Jobe, and this year's Brownlow.
Realistically, what do you think his chances are?
I put 20 bucks on him 2 weeks ago when he was paying $201. My theory behind this was that the Bombers are winning games this year, and (don't take this the wrong way) I can't see too many obvious standouts that will be taking too many votes from Jobe. Obviously there are blokes like Lovett, Ryder, Winderlich (on the w.e), Stanton - but these guys just don't have the consitency to really take enough votes off Jobe in my opinion. Whereas, Geelong and St Kilda who dominate the betting, have several players taking votes from eachother. Judd is one of the favourites that I like, for the same reasons that I like Jobe. I don't want to back Judd at that price though because he does tend to miss a few games.
Another solid game by Jobe on the weekend, where I really thought that he was the one who turned the momentum of the game after half-time. I would have thought that Winderlich would get the 3 votes, then Jobe would be in line for 2 votes with a couple of others that were fairly even.
I just had a look on Sportsbet thinking that after a good game, and a bit of media attention following, that perhaps he would have come down to around the 80-1 mark, perhaps a bit higher. I know that one game shouldn't fluctuate the betting that much, but Brownlow betting usually does fluctuate that much - anyway, much to my surprise, he has gone out to 300-1, so I have had a bit more of a go, a bit of a larger go infact.
What do you all think about his chances?
Rd 1 - 2 votes
Rd 2 - 0
Rd 3 - 0
Rd 4 - 0
Rd 5 - 2 (Three to Stanton)
Rd 6 - 2 (Three to Lovett)
Rd 7 - 0
Rd 8 - 3
Rd 9 - 2
I have him on 11 votes, and I don't think I have been at all generous with those votes.
Feedback please. Cheers.

We would need to win a lot of games and i think the more flashy players like Lovett and Winders will take votes from him.
Good value bet at $201 though.
Excellent speaker, and his voice sounds absolutely identical to his father.
How freaky is it?
Sounds EXACTLY the same. It is amazing.
IMO I don't think he will do enough to win the brownlow this year. I would expect him to get around the 10-15 vote mark for the year, which I think will be a grand effort.

I think he'd get more than 10-15. His been rock'n with awesome consistency till now. No injuries and he's up there :)
He was very, very impressive last night.
Very well spoken, and I really liked the angle he took on a lot of the questions thrown at him.
Definitely captaincy material, but I'd suggest Lloyd's got some time in him yet.

Yeah that embarrassed him pretty good.
Extremely impressive for a guy who doesn't do a whole lot of media. He was nervous but he handled things well. Probably helped to have a friendly face there in Hirdy.
A few times when he turned his head and you got a profile look at him it was Timmy Jr. I always had a feeling he was not quite up to being a captain but after seeing him there I have changed my mind. Good job.

Is what I have for Watson. He's really improved this year and some of his contested possession statistics are phenomenal. Lots of clearances too, which the umpires love. To win it is a big ask though. Possibly top 5, maybe top 3 is my prediction.

Doesn't have the talent to match unfortunately.
Until Essendon recruit and develop a talented group of centre square players, players who can win the ball in close, make good decisions and provide quality clearances, they won’t win a premiership.
Look at Hawthorn (Lewis, Mitchell, Ellis, Sewell) and Geelong (Ablett, Bartel, Sellwood, Corey). That’s the standard you need to be at.
Players like Watson don’t cut the mustard when you get to finals.

What part of that didn't you agree with?
I think the general view in the broader football community is that Watson is a very limited player.
The other point I was making is that it's absolutely essential that you have a talented core of centre square players if you want to be competitive in finals. Essendon have not recruited or developed many of these types.
