Get your bloody hand off it Shaun!
You know the truth you git. You have that trophy on a technicality. True that he is starting the mind games but we all know how good SA is when it comes to mental toughness. :D

As if South Africa are the best team in the world! We beat them 5-1 in the test series last summer and absolutely thrashed them in the ODI's both in Australia and in South Africa. South Africa are easily the 2nd best team in the world, but they are no way the best.

Steve Waugh made a comment at the time South Africa became number one on the test rankings that South Africa would be quick to acknowledge that they aren't really the best team in the world, you only had to look at their recent results against Australia to know that.

At least Boucher acknowledges that there is something wrong with the way the test championship trophy is set up...Learn from him Shaun!!!

Yes - wins over Bangladesh and Zimbabwe got them the trophy, how proud they must be. They had better be quick to take photos of the trophy because they will only have it for a few months

If we beat the Windies in the upcoming series, will that mean we'll be back on top again? or do we have to wait till we beat Bangladesh to get back up there? or do we have to wait till we go to India in 2004 and defeat them there to get our ****ing spot back?!

How sad that you could get worked up by such tongue-in-cheek comments.

We go back top again if we beat the Windies as the last series between the two in Caribean was a draw 2-2.

Speaking of stupid comments, what about the idiot comments John Buchanan made about Pakistan? Whatever happened to not giving the enemy fuel for the fire?
This isn't the first time Buchanan's mouth has let loose, and I bet the players aren't very happy.

Are these the comments you're talking about?

Australia coach John Buchanan has played down the significance of his side's recent successes against Pakistan as the two teams prepare for their World Cup opener at The Wanderers on Tuesday.

After losing a three-match series of one-day internationals to Pakistan last June, Australia went unbeaten through a limited-overs series against Waqar Younis's side in Kenya and then won 3-0 in the test series that followed.

Those test victories included two by an innings, one of the minside two days, but despite those wins, Buchanan said there would be no complacency among his players in what is a re-run of the 1999 World Cup final, which Australia won by eight wickets.

"Yes, our record against them recently is good, but past or even current form counts for very little when you play Pakistan," Buchanan told Reuters on Sunday.

"They have one or two individuals who can turn it on with other players then feeding of them, and that can make them a formidable side."

Buchanan believes the Johannesburg showdown between the two sides could hold significance for the Super Six stage of the tournament which follows the group matches.

"If we can win this match and both sides qualify for the Super Sixes, then we will take the four points we would get through with us, so a win is pretty important," he said.

"The game is also a chance to see where we are at in terms of our preparations and, while I am hoping to win, it would also be nice to get a good hard game under our belts early in the tournament too," he added.

Pakistan coach Richard Pybus echoed Buchanan's thoughts when he said Australia's dominance in recent head-to-head matches meant little coming into the Group A encounter.

Get over it. Melbourne thrashed Brisbane at the gabba, but that doesnt make them premiers.

Sure SA lost to Australia, but around the rest of the world, they have performed well. Either way they are both great sides. SA exploited the current system smartly, and can now claim the paper work. Rightly or wrongly, who cares.

FWIW, I couldnt beleive the age of the SA side last night. That is an old team, and they will be in big trouble in a few years time when a few oldies retire.

The rules are the rules

SA did beat Sri Lanka India and the Windies away, which the Aussies have not done

The sides who beat Brisbane during the year are not claiming to be the best side in Australia (don't think so anyway).

They are on top for now and good luck to them.

Not for long though, not for long.
