Did anyone see the ING Cup match between NSW and Victoria and specifically the Steve Waugh dismissal?

A charge of dissent was last night dismissed. Personally I thought that was a little lucky, particularly given his previous history. Perhaps it was a case of colleagues closing ranks to protect a fellow player.

Inerested in other's thoughts.

He should've been fined. He's done it before and hasn't learn't from that incident. He's becoming a very grumpy old man.

I am a huge Steve Waugh fan but I thought he should have been fined.

Having a go at such a young player was a bit harsh

Especially as he easily caught it.

However, who knows what was said at the hearing.

Steve Waugh is a f*^%head he thinks he is king $hit and every cricketer and fan of the game should look up to him, Steve is nothing but a grumpy old hack that acts as if he is a bloody 2 year old the way he carries on, on and off the field. I wouldn't expect anything less from Steve waugh, But jesus if the ACB suspended or fine him he would have a hissy fit and call an interview telling his idiot fans to slash the throats of every member of the ACB.

Um ok.

Steve is highly respected, but that stuff is not on.

He needs to pull his head in and start respecting his opponents.

I can remember at least two other occasions when he has behaved in a similar way. There was the incident last summer when he was fined after not immediately not accepting the umpire's decision when being given Run Out in Melbourne.

Then there was the less remembered incident in the West Indies Test Series in 1999 when he was out caught behind by a low catch from Jacobs. They referred the incident to the 3rd umpire, who gave it out, and Waugh was clearly showing dissent after giving the decision, shaking his head and taking a while to leave the crease (he was even seen talking to the 3rd umpire not long after the incident). His explanation for that was the Umpire and his brother Mark at the bowler's end didn't think it would be given so he was surprised he was given out. A weak excuse it seems and lucky to get away with that.

David Hookes just said on 3AW that he thought Steve Waugh was lucky to escape a penalty for the incident.

Interestingly, Hookes briefly alluded to Waugh being also involved in an incident with a photographer as he went off the ground. Anyone know any more about this?

For someone who professes to be a great student of the game, Stevie boy has let himself down more than a couple of times over the years when it comes to the plain, old-fashioned sportsmanship department.

Was it only a month or two ago that I read a number of columns in the daily newspapers written by a few of our lads - Steve Waugh included - that they longed for the day when the word of the fielder was once again sacred, and and batsman walked after being given a simple nod of the head.

In fact, the only person who I can recall actually taking the word of a fielder and walking immediately after getting the nod from the catching fielder was Brian Lara, coincidentally AGAINST the Aussies.

But then, Brian has always had far less to prove ....
