View Full Version : Ricky Dyson Growing Up

IT'S Anzac Day, and there are less than three minutes to play when Ricky Dyson sees Magpie Leon Davis wrapped in a tackle as he kicks.
As the ball slides out of bounds on the full, Dyson is the closest Bomber to the boundary line and the free kick is always his. Still, the onballer dashes straight for the ball, picks it up and turns to look up towards goal.
The crowd is loud, the ball is slippery and there are players moving in every direction ahead of him. But Dyson isn't distracted, and he never looks to pass the ball off. Instead he kicks the goal from the tight angle and, running back to the middle, implores his teammates to keep going. There's only two points the difference, now.

Great Article.

"It could have gone either way, I guess, but this is a great club. I never wanted to go."

Now that's ****ing heart.

Great improvement this year.

Hopefully he isn't one of the players that will inevitably be dropped to make way for the players returning from injury

"I never wanted to leave; I never wanted to go," he said. "But I guess you start to wonder if you're wanted, in a way."
He is now ;)

Imagine if his goal had been to win the game after the siren. He have to retire on the spot I reckon.

But seriously, he has played much better this year. Big improvement.

I have been quite impressed with his improvement this year. For a long time I didnt think he was going to take the next step but knighter has shown faith and given him game time which has brought about this improvement.

Full credit must go to knights aswell. When he was first appointed the chop was given to alot of players. Alot of people questioned knighter when he was given a 2 year deal. But he seems to be getting the best out of his players, and his given faith in dyson and made him feel a wanted player. Which in return ahs given him the confidence to play with no fear. It would of been easy for Dyson to have kicked the ball to the top of square against collingwood and alot of players would of, but he backed himself and kicked that great goal. Do you think he would of done that a few years ago??

He's not a kid anymore. He's grown up.

GREAT Job this year.

I think we're only just finding out now, who Ricky Dyson is.

Unless the guy plays a couple of consecutive shockers, then he should make way for noone!

I really feel like he is starting to actually play the footy he is capable of. Another good game today.

Does anyone else feel that the bashing he copped a few years ago stop his advancement in it's tracks? I think that he is finally over it. Today he got some good hard balls and did some good 1%ers which really impressed me. He is showing a great hunger to win the contests & his kicking could be a massive weapon.

As a recent convert I have to put my hand up & say I was a big doubter & didn't think he had the balls or heart to play top level AFL. But I never doubted his skills like many others.

I hope that Myers can gain some what ever else he needs to grow this way ( but much much faster) -

It's always been an issue of maturity and mentality with Ricky as his skills are sublime. It's been good to see everything improve this year and begin to come together but he still has a way to go. Once he gets 100 games under his belt I think he could be something.

This improvment has come out of the blue. He has cemented his spot in the side which is good for him. I still believe that if a player of his skills is good enough to play in our side then we aren't a top four side. (Not just him, other players like NLM, Skipworth)

Dysons Anzac Day game totally changed my opinion of him but he needs to break the lines and play like this more consistantly.

He past few weeks have been ok but with the potential he showed against Collingwood he needs to do more.

I have always been a fan of Ricky, and even through the tough times i have defended him, he has really stepped up this year, as someone on here said, we just needed a game plan that would suit him, and he could be a key to, for him to suceed, and the fast free flowing attacking style of play we have adopted has allowed him to show us his wares, and prove to all of us that he has really come of age.

As for making way for one of Dempsey, Prismal, Welsh, Reimers, etc, i highly doubt it, they do not run and carry the ball like he does now, he has found the heart to want to run out games, the heart to back himself in, and to be brutally honest, I have found a new level of respect from that article and brought a wry smile to my face when he said he did not want to make a decision on leaving bomberland for the Dockers, as Skeet Olly said "now that is ****ing heart" and I fully agree.

I have to disagree. He's always had great skills but it was always a question of if he had the drive to make a player of himself. The frustrating thing was he would do some really good things in a game but back it up with some pretty average things.

I started losing faith last year but he's winning back over this year. Hope he keeps it up.:thumbsu:
