Some shining lights amongst the massive, alcohol-fuelled, curry-powered pile of shit that was the first three quarters.

3. Jay Neagle. Worked his arse off all day, and presented well most times. Still needs to learn how to time his leads properly, and get his fitness base up, but he looks to have a future. Probably the best set of hands at the club.
2. Bachar Houli. I've been a massive critic this season, because I expect a lot from someone with such beautiful skills. Bach has added a real defensive side to his game, and looks to have the confidence in his kicking ability which has been lacking at times.
1. Cale Hooker. Some little defensive errors, but on the whole gave us a good tall option down back, and provided excellent run all day. Kicked a beautiful goal as well.

Hocking unlucky.

Triple H in any particular order.

3. Hooker (perhaps skewed because of his inexperience, but I'd hate to imagine what would've happened today if he tried half as hard as he did -- and, importantly, he kept playing his own game, no matter what, and that game is going to do the team very well in the future)
2. Houli (I never knew he could do such a good job down back till the past few games)
1. Neagle/Hocking/Ryder -- could be any. (Neagle gives fans a little bit more to get excited about every week)

Then there's Dyson, Davey, Winderlich... Too bad that Geelong's 12th best player would get our 3 votes today. Our time is coming.

Yeah I wouldn't mind Pears getting some hard earned appreciation from the wider football community. Kid just seems so mature, calm and poised whenever he plays, and rarely ****s up- not many could honestly say that after todays performance.

Thought Davey was great, repeated efforts all ****ing day when others around him were hopeless. Ryder never stops trying, and yeah Hocking played pretty well in such a dissapointing loss. Watson, as always, was great.

I was most impressed with Pears.

Did he even have a goal kicked on him?

Thought Hooker, whilst good offensively didnt play his best defensive game. Had all sorts of problems with Hawkins early, which forced Pears to go onto him, and although Hawkins inst awesome, was completely shut out of the game.

I thought Pears was one of our few winners on the day.

I think neagle is going to be a solid forward for us, at worst. Has the harder basics down, great contested mark and a nice kick for goal. Was watching him closely in the last, and he was spent. Was on jelly legs for a bit there. I think he now knows what is required, and this next pre-season will hopefully be a big one for him.

3. Pears
2. Houli
1. Neagle

3 - Ryder

Gave our midfielders every opportunity to win the clearances both with his tap work and 2nd efforts. Was forced to ruck the entire last quarter once Bellchambers went down which was never in the script book. Without him it would've been a 20 goal loss.

2 - Hocking

Tried hard on Johnson early but was beaten on most occasions. Was important once he went into the midfield and kicked 2 important goals.

1 - Neagle

As has been mentioned presented hard all day and took the most of his opportunities. There were plenty of times when he made great leads which weren't honoured. Was by far his best game for the club in what was probably the worst midfield delivery and lowest I50 count.

Mentions

Houli -

Kept Varcoe very quiet and put his head over the ball in setting up numerous rebounds. I think he should take the 'anti-ruckman 'rule and be forced to kick everytime rather than handballing...he makes a fair few handball clangers.

Hooker -

Was beating Hawkins until switched to Mooney. Takes the game on and did ok on Mooney although being beaten. Kicked a goal and should've had two.

so painful to watch

Spot on their chief, watson i thought had another good game

his defensive running and manning up was pitiful. i hope i dont have to take back what i said in the other thread regarding him being one of the next potential captains (after david hille).

3 - Ryder - not just our ruckman, but also a clearance player
2 - Pears - kept mooney goalless in the 1st term, then flogged hawkins for the next three.
1 - hocking - great workrate, well rewarded with two goals. the early plan to play him on stevie j turned to shite when we started getting murdered in the middle and he was needed there.

When voting we should remind ourseleva the Cats are simply the beat team in the league & were always going to make us look very ordinary.

These guys played well:

Hocking
Ryder
Neagle ( getting better each week )
Pears
Dyson - 2009 is his best year. Great goal!
Davey

Watson & Hooker, Houli were all solid to very good in parts.

Points for trying but no cigar to
McPhee, Jetta & Zaha

What was the go with our players slipping over all day? Geelong didnt seem to slip over half as much. Was it pressure or were our players wearing the wrong boots?

Houli wasn't damaging enough for mine. You could probably throw him one vote but not too sure if he would deserve much more. Some of the errors he made and his accountability at times were poor (I.e. not flying with Johnson in the goal square - terrible mistake)

Only stat we got even remotely close to geelong in was ruck taps.. on the back of this man. Was in everything.. and worked hard. Was so evident in the 1st qtr when belly came on.. that is when it all started to slide...

1. no one.

Pretty poor effort across the board. 4th qtr was junk time and not many did much in the first 3..

3. Ryder, battled hard in the ruck all day.
2. Pears, our only winner in defense all day. Great head on his shoulders.
1. Houli, didn't stop running all day and had about 30 touches.

People have come on here and gave Hooker votes. Sure he ran hard all day, but Mooney did have 15 grabs and if he kicked straight, he would've kicked 7 goals. He is improving every week though and not much he could of done as the delivery was first class.

While i'm on here, I must discuss some of the disgust at some of the bomber supporters that were sitting around me yesterday. Some of the garbage that was coming out of there mouths was disgusting. It was like listening to a Richmond supporter. The amount of times I heard supporters abuse our boys for showing a lack of effort made me sick. Also to hear the words kick the ball long at all costs show they knew nothing about footy as we haven't played like that at all this year, and have won games doing it. They don't go out there and not try. We were beaten by a very skilful, strong, tough and brilliant football team who planned for the game very well and executed their game plan with precision. Some supporters out there forget to think we are a young developing side with a play on at all costs game plan (which we were'nt able to execute yesterday due to great pressure applied by Geelong) and it's going to be a couple of years before we can challenge great teams like Geelong. These are also the same supporters that were jumping up and down like idiots, as I was after we beat Hawthorn only a few weeks back.

Neagle 3 - the only positive to come out of the game. his workrate was up and he marked (only one error) and kicked well from limited opportunities.

Dyson 2 - played high game time, provided run and his skills quite good. improved greatly in the last month or so - confidence was the key.

Pears 1 - with the defence under the pump he did a great job on hawkins and johnson late in the game.

Honourable mentions to Ryder and Hocking.

Yeah it's an Essendon members thing. I had some ****wit behind me abusing Stanton for being lazy and not running hard enough. Was hilarious because straight after he said it, Stanton kicked a goal and I turned around and gave the bloke a fair serve. A few others decided to jump on a give him a serve afterwards too.

Some people are just ignorant but after sitting in the members for 10 years you quickly learn to just ignore most things that come out of their mouths. I remember last year some old ***** given Lloyd grief for being a terrible captain. Things like 'Jimmy would never have done that'.

Ah the joys....

Too true. They need to meditate on the word "supporter".

We all use football-viewing/club-following in a way that engages with our emotions. I find it like a drug each week. Sport is like poetry with body language. Watching the boys exist in the extremes of their bodies/capabilities is not just inspirational, it expresses one of the great things about humanity. And even if your team is hacking away pathetically, the fact that it's your team is what makes the emotional engagement possible in the first place -- and all the experiences that come with it.

So what pisses me off is when people go to the game and selfishly use it as an emotional outlet without acknowledging the team aspect that makes it possible in the first place. I was in the very back row of Etihad on Sunday, and the guy next to me was screaming abuse as if the individual players could hear him; as if he was God Almighty handing down perfect judgements from above. If he knew what was really going on with regards to supporterdom -- and he could if he would stop being so selfish and take the time to consider the player's perspective -- he wouldn't only stop cheating his team, he'd stop cheating himself. That's the whole point of being a true supporter -- it's the only way you can really consider yourself a part of the club, even if it is in a tiny, tiny way -- and I know a bunch of people on here know that when you do it like that, the rewards are just utterly, utterly magnificent.

stay true

Yeah it's the same old story every week with a lot of idiots that go to the games.

I can't believe some of the shit I hear. Some if it is sometimes fair but a lot of the time it's either harsh or just plain rediculous. Eg. Lloyd copping flack because our midfield constantly kick over his head, not kicking long when we don't have any options forward of the ball etc etc.

It's pretty embarrassing sometimes ay.
