Just an option

He has opened four times for Australia against four different teams.

Scoring 26, 50 not out, 92 not out and 119 at an average of about 140.

If Gilly continues to fail we could perhaps move him down the order and open with Boof.

Continues to fail? When has he been failing? He has been above average of late and is the most explosive batsmen in the world.

I could understand why you would want Lehmann to open as the opening 15 over fielding restrictions wouldn't make much difference to Gilly where as they would to Lehmann but i wouldn't change the lineup based on that.

I'd slot Lehmann back into the middle order atleast for now to see what sort of form he is in and if Gilly does struggle and Lehmann performs then a change in line-up maybe justified, but not yet.

Lehmann showed in Perth what he is capable of at the top of the order. I think it's a good idea, save Gilchrist for the last ten overs.

Ahead of Hayden and Gilchrist? I'd be strongly against it.

I saw Martyn once score 130* in Perth for Australia in a ODI as an opener. That could be another option Ponting has up his sleeve.

Not a bad idea opening up with Lehmann. He and Hayden are both in top form, so why not try it.

Gilchrist could be saved for when we need him. If our first 10 overs are slow bring him in at number 3 or 4. If we are scoring quickly save him for the last 10 overs. His power and placement is so good he could still hit plenty of boundaries with 5 fielders on the rope.

While we're on the subject, Andrew Symonds made 60 odd off about 60 balls at Bellerive when opening the batting a few years ago... why not open with him? :D

I agree, Martyn should be opening in Perth right now.
