View Full Version : John Butler Trio
Has anyone got their new CD, Living 2001-2002? If so, what do you think of it?
I've never heard of a cd called "Living", but JBT put out a cd mid-year 2002 called "Three" which I've heard a fair bit of - it's quite a good cd - a worthy addition to your collection IMO. Heard john butler on triple j the other night singing a new song also, about the whole refugee thing, funny song - good too. He said they'd be putting out a new album around the end of the year, early next year if i remember correctly. i could be wrong about "living"?hope that helps in some way. cheers. ;)

Saw them live at BDO last year, and if their live CD's are half as good as the band is live, it'll be well worth getting. Great band, with some gorgeous tunes.

That song is called "Home is where the heart is". Here are the lyrics -
hard working people from another land
looking for a little more
coming to this country for a helping hand
you know they sail their ships upon these shores
and they're looking for a freedom
that most of us don't appreciate
but you know man we can't let them in
cos' the governments full of racial hate
and then they got the nerve to say
they be taking our culture away
even though our ancestors tried to do the same
to the aborigine
seems strange to me man strange to me
don't it seem strange to you?
that a country founded on immigration
is so damned racist too
and i say home
home is where the heart is
and then they got the nerve to say
they be taking our jobs away
even though half the jobs that we're working for
are owned from overseas
and the other half of the companies
yes yes that they say that we rightly own
they operate on aisle three third world
thats right yeah the sweat shop zone
and i say i don't know whats going on
don't know what the hell to say
the government decides on letting refugees in
and when they get here yes they are detained
and i don't know whats going on
don't know the reason why
we live in an educated so called democracy
where everybody decides to believe in lies
believe in lies...
home is where the heart is
I like those lyrics. I've never really heard the band, but intend to check them out.

Good song, disagree with the lyrics though.
I dunno, I reckon they're pretty much spot on.

nah coz the ppl trying to come in do so illegally and Aus stupidly lets them in instead of sending them home in which most other countries on Earth do. Most come here now because the we let in more than others so thats why heaps try to come illegally.
The government isn't racist at all, they are abiding by the law except letting some in isn't. They are too soft. Should kick them all out unless they are actually REAL refugees. How fair is it that they skip the queue while ppl trying to do it the legal way can't come in because of these ppl. it's wrong.
Then when the do get in they complain and whinge when they are lucky to be even let in.
The government is very racist. You've been listening to too much Reith, Howard and Costello propaganda! You try being a refugee sometime, and see how you like living in some camp for 6 months or more.

Thing is they aren't actual refugees. They have tried to come here illegally and in any other country would be turned away straight away. We are easier to get in to than most other countries which is why they try coming here coz at least they know they have more of a chance than others.

Under Australian Law andInternational Law a person is entitled to make an application for refugee asylum in another country when they allege they are escaping persecution. Article 14 ofthe Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that"Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in othercountries asylum from persecution." People who arrive on our shores without prior authorisation from Australia, with no documents, or false documents are not illegal. They are asylum seekers _ a legal status under International Law. Many Asylum Seekers are forced to leave their countries in haste andare unable to access appropriate documentation. In many cases oppressive authorities actively prevent normal migration processes from occurring. `Illegals' arepeople who overstay their visas. The vast majority ofthese in Australia are from western countries, including5,000 British tourists.
.......and despite that, it's miiiiiles easier for a Brit to get a visa here than, say, an Indonesian.

But the ppl rocking up aren't real refugess, ie they aren't forced to flee they just wish to coz Australia is better than their conditions, but not worthy of refugee status hence illegal.

The ones in the detention centres aren't.
They are lucky to be in there, even though the conditions are apparently fairly good when they don't trash them:D
However being illegal and all they shouldn't expect to roam the country feely and are lucky they are in at all.
I understand a real refugee coming and accept that they should be allowed to come, however, most are not.
i think 'go team' is spot on with his assertion that it is not illegal to seek asylum. i just have one small thing to say: What would you do if you lived in a war torn country, were starving and so on. would you not look for a better life. EVERYBODY deserves the right to a better life, a free life, a safe life. If I was caged up in a prison I wouldn't consider myself lucky at all.

I think you better check your facts on your first sentence..........and provide some actual proof if you can find it.
As for illegal immigrants.........what about the 70,000+ people who have over stayed their visas that are currently freely roaming the country........surely some of these are much more of a threat to the country than the piddly few thousand that are locked up in detention centres.............
