And they are:
* Andrew McDougall (Pick 5)
* Daniel Kerr (Pick 18)
* Jeremy Hunn (Pick 36)
* Trent Carroll (Pick 45)
What does everyone think of the picks? Long term prospects or short term gains? 3/4 were West Australians, however I was suprised that the Eagles and Dockers both overlooked Domenic Cassisi (Well done to Port for snaring him so late at 50)
Im soooo glad we got McDougall. Thats all i wanted ive heard huge wraps and wasnt sure he would still be available but we got him. And Carrol was also a good pick up, with Mckenna and Metro gone this season our defence was looking shaky but with Carrol and hopefully a fit Wirripunda and Prior our defence should be ok.

Lol, things change so quickly. 1/4 ain't bad :o
I think Swift will turn out to be a Kerr like bargain

Hahaha...jeeez, soo glad we got the G-Train trade with St. Kilda. Otherwise we wouldn't have Kerr, and this would have to go down as our worst draft ever!
That said, we also got Serakowski out of the trade, and that didn't exactly work for us either!!! :mad:
Soooo... 1/5 :o

We did better out of our rookie elevation and PSD pick than we did in 3/4 of those draft picks, such a crap draft too.

McDougall was highly regarded as a youth.

Let's hope Jack Watts turns out the gun that Doogs was.
Hehe...we picked McDougall before Kerr!! :eek:

Funny thing is hindsight. I would have been stoked to get McDougall after that draft too (i was 7 than so didnt really care), he did look very good in his first couple of seasons as well.

Hopefully the 15 other clubs make the same mistake with Colyer that they did with Kerr...:cool:

Bringing up these threads is so unfair on the guys that were around when they were created. 20/20 hindsight is so much better.
I'm still glad we picked McDougall. Who else would we compare terrible KPP players to?

Kerr will be a dud IMO, wasted pick 18 with him. McDougall looks a find find though, and that Carroll is a star.

Plus, had we not taken McDougall, we may not have ended up with Mackenzie.

Geez BF must have been a happenning place in 2000... a whole 1 reply to a thread welcoming new draftees!

Dougs was as highly regarded as Roo so you cant blame us for picking him. Roo however has a heart.
Off topic but Brandon Hill was a star.

As greennick pointed out bringing these threads up is really unfair and I dare say that 90% of us would have been stoked that we got McDougall at the time. I know that I was.
On the other hand lets give some respect to GE for this call!

Very harsh considering how highly rated they were at the time.
Who knows? In 8 years' time someone could be looking back saying the same about something you've said;)

they may very well do....
but until then....i stand by the call.
mcdougall was a shocker - reminds me of jack watts...however in a shallow draft youd go the tall....
and then the recommendation of polak
in hindsight - how can you not say they were shocking calls?

That's the beauty of hindsight, at the time both seemed like the right move, heck at the time I was pissed off we chose Judd over Polak but it just shows we should have more faith in the west coast recruiting staff as they know a heck of a lot more about this stuff then we do.

In hindsight they are, but you said he made a shocking call even though he made it at the time, hence not in hindsight.
It'd be like someone looking back on the decision to make Cousins captain and saying it was wrong because of what he's done since then.

Dylan McNiel. He is a gun and i wish we had pick 39 to pick him up.
Funny because Swift is a bit of a terrier inside the packs like Kerr as well.
