No Australian world cup matches will be shown next week. What's the point of owning the coverage if you aren't going to show them.

We get a look at South Africa and New Zealand on Sunday night and then that's it for match coverage.

Australia play Holland on thursday night (one sided I know) but instead of any coverage we get to watch Roswell, the Letterman Show and some movie called Rubdown.

I really hope this improves when we get to the super 6s.

Very poor of Nine not to show the Australian game. I was under the impression they would show every Australian game (even against Bangladesh and Namibia).

Should be a public protest - flood their switchboard, call the programming director!

I was under the same impression.

Those games are both live on Fox Sports.

I'm not fussed because i have Foxtel, but for those without the luxury of Pay TV, it would be extremely disappointing.

I guess 9 are putting ratings ahead of the public interest.

I can't imagine that, with national sporting feelings being on an absolute high after the Socceroos' win midweek. They'd almost have to follow up on that, certainly.

However, from our vantage point here in Ballarat, it all seems like whinging is a moot point, because we're getting the match live on Nine. What about those of you in Melbourne? I realise that we all don't get the same programming sometimes...

Good thing it's on Nine here, because with the cable we recently installed, we have some sports offerings such as Fox Footy and ESPN, but no Fox Sports 1 or 2. So if you're an absolutely devout cricket fan here, you're basically screwed, unfortunately.

Cheers,
William

How exactly does that work? If 9 can get better ratings showing something else then surely the public are more interested in that than the cricket.

Figure of speech.

As a whole, the Australian public would like to have the cricket shown, however, that doesn't necessarily equate to higher ratings then that of the alternative.

This is hardly anything new, as commerical broadcasters will always put ratings (i.e. profits) before the public interest.

It's not like this is unprecedented. Ch. 9 only showed the 2nd half of Australia's matches against Bangladesh and Scotland in the 1999 World Cup, and in the 1996 World Cup only showed the match against Kenya on several hours delay.

I don't know why they bother to pay the money on broadcast rights.

Which Pay TV provider have you got? If you've got Austar, Fox Sports 1 and 2 come standard.

Not Austar here... when we moved, we chose to go with Neighborhood Cable (mainly for their internet + cable TV package deal; it turns out to be less than what we were paying for just the ISP at our old place).

No regrets over that decision-- love the service, regardless.

But the sales people at NC in Ballarat tell me that they expect to be adding Fox Sports 1 & 2 sometime in the near future.

William

The problem is, Channel Nine aren't even showing a delayed package or highlights of the game. On Thursday, from midnight we get:

Late show with David Letterman
1am: Movie - Rubdown (hey, this could be quite good!)
2.40am: Spyforce
3.30am: Gideon's Way

Surely Cricket would rate higher than this trash.
