Ireland have done it again, they couldn't win a game in the ODI World Cup's second stage but the Kiwis' injury list gives them a great opportunity here. That list sees Jesse Ryder sent home and Ross Taylor doubtful to play again this tournament, something skipper Daniel Vettori hasn't done yet. James Franklin's also spent some time in hospital with a sore knee. Aaron Redmond comes into the squad in place of Ryder because he was in England and there's a realistic chance he'll be needed tonight for the first time in coloured clothing for his country. He has a rare Twenty20 century on his record, with an average above 30 and a strike rate of 130 - yes the same bloke who made Katich look exciting last summer.

Ireland aren't without their injury problems but Niall O'Brien and Trent Johnston are playing. Without those two the Irish suffered their first Twenty20 loss last night going down to India when they were bowled out for 112 in 18 overs. 2 off 17 not good enough and Jeremy Bray misses out along with Andrew White and Boyd Rankin. Peter Connell is the third inclusion.

Game 2 sees the hosts leave London for the first time to meet the team from the other nation to have hosted this tournament. These two teams also met in their first game of the 2007 World Twenty20, where South Africa were far too good. One team will have to chase for the first time after both batted first in each of their group games where. That didn't make much difference in the group games with the team batting first winning 6 and losing 6. At this ground it's taken targets of 180 and 192 to win, with 137, 159 and 112 being overhauled with plenty of time to spare.

England recovered after losing to the Netherlands to get through to this stage after scoring 180 against Pakistan. Is 33 off 32 good enough on a 180 pitch? Owais Shah will find out with Robert Key the likely beneficiary if it doesn't go his way. The other selection issue is do they stick with the twin spin of Graeme Swann and Adil Rashid on a pitch that traditionally favours the quicks, but has seen spinners take 25 wickets to the seamers' 31 in 5 games this tournament.

South Africa have no selection issues and will take in an unchanged side but it will be interesting to see how they cope with the pressure if they don't get to bat first. de Villiers had his failure for the month on Tuesday, not good news for England.

England have won the toss and elected to bat.

They still look light on batting to me.

England were quite simply smashed. They looked pathetic

The only thing that can stop South Africa winning the tournament is the openers. There are no extraordinary hitting that will come out of Kallis or Smith

Muppet is average, why do they keep picking him? He and Kallis are too fat.
