Just had this idea from another thread, seeing that the show has had so many 'major' characters in 5 seasons, I thought it would be interesting to see which 5 resonate the most with different posters, for whatever reason.

Here's a list of imo the most memorable characters, though I'm sure I'll miss some:

McNulty
Kima
Prop Joe
Slim Charles
Avon Barksdale
D'Angelo Barksdale
Stringer Bell
Omar
Bodie Broadus
Wallace
Snoop
Chris Partlow
Denis 'Cutty' Wise
Fruit
Poot
Bubbles
Snoop
Marlo Stanfield
Michael Lee
Namond
Wee Bey Brice
Bird
Bunk Moreland
Cedric Daniels
Butchie

I'm sure there are more, like I said.

Anyway, I'd make a poll but it would be impossible to cover all the options.

My top 5:

1. Omar
2. Wallace
3. D'Angelo Barksdale
4. McNulty
5. Michael Lee

Apologies to Stringer Bell, Cutty, Bunk and Marlo (easily one of the greatest villains in television history, when he shot that girl in her front yard.... man.... awesome).

1. Proposition Joe
2. McNulty
3. Avon Barksdale
4. Bubbles
5. Omar

That was tough, and it probably changes each time I watch it

Too difficult, off the top of my head:

1. Omar (easily)
2. McNulty
3. Stringer Bell
4. Michael Lee
5. Bunk

Had a soft spot for:
- Bubbles
- Dukie
- Prop Joe
- Boxing Coach in season 4 (forget his name)
- Prez when he became a school teacher
- Sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

My favourite scene is when Bunk and McNulty reconstruct the events at a crime scene in a kitchen for 5 minutes using various inflections of the same work (ie f***). Very clever and very funny.

1. Stringer
2. McNulty
3. Omar
4. Avon
5. Bubbles

The final place was between Prop Joe, Bunk and Bubbles, but Bubbles AA scene gets him across the line. Just heartbreaking.

Can't do it. I would list five, then rattle off another ten who deserved to be there! The Wire is the best show I have seen.

I agree it's pretty tough to limit it to 5 but I gave it a shot:

1. Omar
2. Bodie
3. Stringer
4. Michael
5. Bunk

Honourable mentions to Poot, Chris Partlow, Slim Charles, Norman, Cutty, Carver... i could go on but I'll stop.

2. Avon
3. D'Angelo
4. Bodie
5. Kima

It's hard. Because alot of the characters come and go. Eg: McNulty sucked in the last couple of seasons. Whereas he was probably my favourite in Season 1.

He was brilliant in the last season.

4. Marlo
5. McNulty/Colvin/Wallace/Michael/Randy

Very difficult exercise.

In no particular order: Omar, Lester, Bunk, Brodie and D'Angelo.

1. Omar:-
2. Prez:- The guy truly came full circle. Complete ****up to man of principal who acted with integrity. Love the bit where he punched out his major father in law.
3. Bunk:- Dude is just cool.
4. Frank Sabotka:- Underated character from an underated season. Nothing big on his own but he was just so central to the season.
5. Bodie:- This was a tough one, between him and D'Angelo. His death almost made me cry. Season 4 where he and McNulty started eating out at the Burger joint. It was just sad to see the hoplessness of the situation. He was never getting out of west Baltimore, even when he started to realise how stupid it all was, all he had to hope for was a round in the head. And that's just what he got. Love this show, they don't sugar coat anything.

Top 5 I'd like to punch in the face.

1. Deputy Rawls:- What an arsehole. Plays the beuracratic political arse screwing up the real world to perfection.
2. Clay Davis:- Shhhheeeeeeeittttttt
3. Ziggy Sobotka:- Moron, prison would own the dude
4. Scott templeton:- The arsehole reporter.
5. De'Londa Brice:- Mother of Daymon. Basically pushes her kid into the criminal underworld.

I used to think it was Daymon too! It's actually Namond.

Man, there's a serious lack of Bubbles-love going on here. As a result;

1) Bubbles
2) McNulty
3) Bunny Colvin
4) Stringer
5) Wee-Bey

Special mention to Frank and Nick Sobotka, Brother Mouzone, Cutty, Bunk, Beadie, Daniels, and every other freakin' cast member.

As good as his story arc was, I never forgot that he was the ****er that killed Wallace. Sure, he didn't really have a choice... just another reason why this show is so great; there are no heroes and villians, they're just people.

Well, Poot finished him off, but yeah, Wallace's death was the worst I think because that character had so many redeeming qualities and was so young in a lot of ways (like when Bodie looks over at Wallace and he's playing with some toy, like an action figure or something, then proceeds to throw a bottle at him).

bodie - soldier, the barometer of the show for me
bubbles - loved the battle when he was trying to clean himself up
omar - he just commanded attention
snoop - sorta came outta nowhere and was just hardcore
mcnulty - when he was on the straight and narrow, you knew it couldn't last

stringer gets my honorbale mention, to me it looked as though the people in charge realised he was a stronger character than avon and slanted the show that way, loved how he converted the street into a corporate style and then was out of his league in the real corporate world and avon pulled him up on it

Bodie had the honour of the best death scene though.

Omar's was so appropriate as well, he was a guy who was completely without peer when it came to outwitting drug dealer's, police and gangsters, he was a cut above all of them. The only possible way for him to get taken out was for someone so completely non-threatening to do it.

Man Herc is getting way underappreciated here.

1. Lester
2. Herc
3. Omar
4. Serge
5. Stringer

Thats part of the reason his arc an character were so good, because you could always remember him killing Wallace but still cared for him and wanted him to get out.

1. Omar
2. Bodie
3. Bunk
4. Bubbles
5. Marlo

Herc would just about be my most hated character, a complete **** of a person. IIRC it was his actions that led directly to Randy being put in the home in S4.

Yep, and he was the reason Marlo went free. Not to mention all the brutality.

Hated that character. Typical cop!
