The Last Airbender is an upcoming 2010 live action fantasy film based on the first season of the Emmy-winning animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The movie is the first film in the planned The Last Airbender trilogy. Adapted, directed, and produced by M. Night Shyamalan.

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The films hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is the Last Airbender — the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together.

Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Dev Patel plays the Fire Nations evil prince Zuko. Exiled from the Fire Nation by his father, Zuko is sent to capture the Avatar in order to restore his honour and right to the throne.

As an Avatar fan, I'm looking forward to this.

As an avatar fan, i know they are going to **** this up.Agree with you there man the trailer just looked dodgey. Also the voice over was just laughable, why couldn't they just have Katara talking like she does at the start of the episodes would've made it better.

An Airbender? WOW what a superpower! We needed this guy during "The Happening" to fight the evil trees and grass trying to kill mankind. This sounds so Lame.

The cartoon it's based on is excellent. Truely one of the few good american animations of recent times. I really enjoyed it even being well above target audience age.

Loved the show so I will probably see it. Though I am not looking forward to seeing a live action movie on it, I don't think it can be done well and quite frankly from all reports hasn't been in the works long enough for me to be optimistic about it being any good.

Trailer doesn't look too bad I must admit. Though if I remember correctly I think they had to forgo the name 'avatar' in the title for legal reasons. Can anyone get me up to speed on what the go is there?
