It has been getting some good early reviews as well, I have high hopes for this. Gordon Levitt is bound for big things.

Don't need to see the previews to see this one...i'm there :)
Although the (Crap)Happening was probably a good one to see the preview first to judge if i really wanted to put myself through shit.

Haha sweet jesus The Happening was bad. Words cannot describe.
As for this... I dunno. There's an air of "quirk" that I do not like, but also a touch of goodness. Probably take the gf to see it.

It was playing at the Sydney Film Festival a while back, but it sold out pretty quickly so I didn't get to see it then. Not sure if it's set for general release here though!
Deschanel's also the lead singer of She & Him, and they've made a new music video for 'Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?' The song's not featured in the movie, but it's still great! Wicked dance moves.

I loved him in Manic (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252684/) which I saw 7-8 years ago the the Melb Film Festival.
Haha sweet jesus The Happening was bad. Words cannot describe.
Well it was written by M. Night Shyamalan. He's written 2 good scripts and everything else has been utter tripe. Avoid his stuff like the plague.

Great film! Not your stock standard boy meets girl film. Needs a sequel "500 Days of xxxxxxx"
You'll have to watch the film, right to the end, to know what the sequel should be called.
Joseph Gordon Levitt was very good. Some funny scenes with his on-screen 11 year-old sister.
I'll have to check out his other recent films.

I didn't want to overly-stress the point, but I feel less ghey about it now.
He's quite clearly the star of the show and he definitely should go on to bigger and better things.

i think his work in mysterious skin well and truly shook that off 5 years ago

He was horrid in Alpha Dog though.
Still a good actor. Him and Emile Hirsch are some of the best young actors atm

I'm just taking a punt here, but I get the impression it'd be pretty hard to put in a decent acting performance in a movie you aren't actually in.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Great movie. Has stayed with me ever since I saw it, some parts definitely hit home.
Has some incredible scenes (the expectation vs reality split scene for example) but some things could have been left out (i thought the younger precocious sister was a misstep).
I actually want to see it again. I feel like this is going to become a bit of a modern day classic ala Eternal Sunshine.

If it's anything like Eternal Sunshine I'll definitely be giving it a go. :thumbsu:
I went to see this movie the other day - and I found it a total non-event.
It was neither good nor bad, it was neither funny nor sad, it was neither exciting nor boring.
It was unusual to see a movie such as this that had absolutely no effect on me. It was like drinking distilled water or eating plain white bread or a boiled potato.

Saw it twice over the weekend. I loved it! Best film of 2009 for me, though there's not much competition to be honest. Maybe it's because I'm pretty much exactly like the main character in it, but it really hit home with me.
That expectation vs reality scene was awesome and very true. They captured it perfectly.
The bit where he was on the street and all the color faded away and turned to black n white sketch, and he was just a black silhouette... very cool. Being a film I can relate to, I really got into it. The scenes where they were having discussions about putting labels on things, prancing about in IKEA, they really captured what it is like to be in those situations with another person, and how relationships go right/wrong.
The only thing I didnt like is how they named the girl at the end Autumn. Even though it fits perfectly with the movie, I just found it corny or something.
Back to reality, and now I'm just waiting for my Autumn... :o
It's a really well put together film, though not for everyone. It's refreshing to see movies like this coming out that tackle romantic comedies, but are more male orientated IMO. I can see lots of guys being like 'lol fag!' etc. But f*ck them. Good film, and definitely worth seeing :thumbsu:
Saw it last night and boy was I impressed even a little sad.
Highlight to reveal --> Like others have said, i loved the reality, expectations part thought it was cleverly done. Got to say though I was pretty pissed with Summer at the end. I mean how the **** can go that long and then call it off and then get married. Women... The end was nice even if it was corny.
Anyway, was a good ****ing film and the soundtrack is absolutely awesome. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Certainly agreed with Emile Hirsch. Love his work.
Saw this today and thought it was fantastic. I loved the element of realism it had which was a refreshing change.
Highly recommended :thumbsu:
Finally got to see this, and was not disappointed.
The only thing I would like to do is watch it again!! Seeing as how it didnt run in order, and jumped over the place a bit, it's definitely a film you (or at least me :o) need to see twice.
Actors were great in it.. luuurved the song and dance number in it too. :D:thumbsu:

Probably my favourite from last year.

Hadn't heard about this film, before I saw it on the plane, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Some brilliant set pieces (as some have mentioned, Expectations vs Reality), and overall a pretty darn good film. Great soundtrack.
Could have done without the look to the camera at the very end.

Probably my favourite from last year.
Imagine if it ended after the scene on the park bench. The housewives would've rioted. I wish they didn't have to go to the happy ending route, but at least the rest of the movie isn't cliched at all.

Lightweight and disposal but enjoyable enough.
Undercooked script didn't help - Summer suffered most here.
Annoyingly milked its 'indie' status...

Disagree. It needed the last scene to assure us the audience that things were looking up for the good guy after being shafted.

I thought one of the last scenes with Tom and Summer talking on that park bench was an absolute ripper, really good dialogue and acting, especially from JGL.

Like the story, like the acting, hate the movie
Whoever wrote the script decided to make it as boring as possible I think. Add some humor, some wit, something of relevance to the dialogue. You could literally watch the movie on mute and miss nothing.

saw it a while back, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Got the humor just right to avoid it being a romcom, great character development, and a sad yet happy ending.
I would call it a thinking persons film, and think that is why it was so unsuccessful in the cinemas

Huh?
Budget: US$7.5 million
Gross revenue: US$60,722,734
That's an ROI of 700% which is hardly unsuccessful in anyone's language
FYI: is on sale at JBHifi for only $13!
Might have to swing by this weekend and grab a copy. :thumbsu:
Or as part of a double DVD pack with Juno for $16. :thumbsu:
