We usually get the likes of Holly or Kylie getting slagged off for poor singing at awards ceremonies.
Well what about Coldplay ? Drunk - missed notes, waving his head around - anyone think the same ? or can't we slag off 'serious' bands

lol. he was waving his head around a bit, but then he's always like that. He gets caught up in the music.
Admittedly, it wasn't their best performance, but there were many worse. Vanessa Carlton can play the piano, but she sure can't sing.

Chris Martin is an amazing performer, he has a passion for music that lacks in most musicians these days, and it really shines in his performance. It's not because he was drunk, he didn't miss any notes, it's because he really feels the music.
I thought Coldplay played f***in awesome, sent shivers down my spine. The only complaint I had was with the camera only focusing on Chris, it was a Coldplay song, not just Chris Martin, all they showed of the rest of the band was long distance shots and a few shots of Will going off towards the end of the song on the drums.

I agree. The music consumes him. I knew as I was watching him sing that he would get crap by people complaining about his moving head but they obviously don't know much about him or Coldplay.
I also thought it was an amazing performance, though I haven't actually seen a bad Coldplay performance in a while. On the topic, does anyone know when they're touring again?

If missing notes is 'feeling the music then you can see me 'play' at the concert hall tonight - I'm a new maestro and all my notes will be 'felt'

When did he once miss a note, "Maestro"?

It's funny that you should accuse him of being drunk because he's a teetotaller, doesn't touch drugs either.
So whilst having to bring you up on that point I'm with you on slagging off this serious band, I can't stand them.It makes me despair that this band is currently seen as holding the baton for British rock music(what's happened to us?Once we had the
Stones/Beatles/Kinks/Sex Pistols/Pulp/even Oasis when they were good- now we've got this lot, Radiohead & those Welsh wallies the Manic Street Preachers).
Taking the music of Coldplay on it's own I call it anemic Rock, it's just so lacking in any soul, spirit, fire or real passion.
The reason for this may be the idiot who sings for them, he plays up to this nice guy persona but he's a freak, apparently(according to him anyway) he was a virgin till he was 22, as already said he doesn't drink, he goes out with Gwyneth Paltrow as cold & as unsexy a woman as you are likely to see-after he won his awards at the Brits the another night he wnet back to Gwynies flat where her personal chef cooked them a macrobiotic meal to celebrate & he broke his teetotalness to have half a glass of champers.
How can a man like this make rock & roll music, to do that you need a pair of balls to start with either physically or metaphorically.

He doesn't try making "rock n roll" music, he makes unique, beautiful music. WTF has the attractiveness of his girlfriend, how much alcohol he drinks, being a virgin until 22 have to do with the quality of music they produce?

Absolutely nothing, but then you expect nothing more from d|ckheads on a message board who have never written a song in their lives.
I mean, for ****s sake - hanging crap on a guy for waving his head around a little during a live performance......just goes to show how little the general public know about live performance and the meaning of music to its composer.

I had to sit and endure the whole show with my neice.
the horror, the horror...
Coldplay were far from the worst thing on that show. That bloke who sang about some sheilas body as a temple?.. Goddam awful, Ive heard better buskers in Flinders st.
Slag of the night was that (I think) woman with BB.King and some other bloke TOTALLY stuffing up a dedication to some dead guy with her own self-absordedeness. BB looked mortified that he had to follow on from that.
Looking forward to seeing the Boss out here though. Didnt like 'the rising' much as a record but he still dominates a stage.

To be fair if they hadn't had the orchestra with them it would have looked like just another band but they seemed so pretentious going off like that when the orchestra guys had to play as ordered and would have been sacked for doing what they did.

Come on Pess, I thought you had more of a general clue......
It's not every day that a songwriter gets to perform his music live with one of the best orchestras in the world.
EVEN a huge band like Coldplay.
I'm not a fan of them, but cut the guy some slack - he would have been next to heaven during that song.
Next you'll be bagging the conductor for waving his hands around......

i also dislike coldplay, but doesnt mean they cant put an a good performance, too bad i hate their music

See! Even people who "hate" Coldplay's music can appreciate it to be a good performance, It's only narrow minded f***'s who have never played a piano or written lyrics in their life that don't understand how amazing the performance was.

I didn't see Coldplays performance, I don't like them so I'm not going to judge.
But as for bagging serious rock bands- okay I'm gonna let The Vines have it.
They were gobshiite at the BDO. Their music and performance lacked the passion and aggression they're are rumoured to have.
Okay, their album may not be the total rockorama people expected following their singles' release but...the band's attitude, general demeanour etc suggests that they are a rock band in the tradition of nirvana, sex pistols, the who. Their singles suggest they will break out and do something totally wild.
But no, all we get on stage is some drunk ****, who, along with the rest of the band, stares at his feet all day. Bloody shoegazer.
If this band wants to be taken seriously, they need to make up their mind about what their image really represents .
Now go ahead people, blast the crap out of me for having an opinion.

Stop it.
You're making me laugh.
They're as packaged a pop act as Britney Spears.

you have no idea, coldplay's music is quite the opposite of lacking in soul and spirit and passion. It has more than the average rock and roll bands. Because they aren't trying to be rock n roll, they are creating beautiful music. I understand it's not for everybody, but to slag them off is poor form.
