Ok will only mention minimal names here as the rest did as expected:

Gumbleton - he's back and was involved in full training session and moved well. I won't say any more as i'll raise expectations too high :)

Watson - did a fair amount of jogging without any twisting or turning. Might only miss the one week on what i saw.

McVeigh - did the full session and you could sense he was very down on himself for his indiscretion with some encouragement to keep his head up from knights and co.

Skipworth - didn't train. Walked and jogged some slow laps.

Williams - trained ok and looks to be over his injury.

Davey - didn't train. Had his knee bandaged and walked/jogged slowly with skippy. Seemed to be in good spirits so i wouldn't be concerned and would imagine he'll train Thursday and be right for Friday.

McPhee - had his calf bandaged but looked to be moving well. He looks a certain inclusion for Watson.

Bryce Carroll - haven't seen much of him to date but was impressed with his speed - he looked to be moving quite well.

Bellchambers - moving well and could come up for selection next week to assist Ryder against Jolly.

Good job EfcBoy.

Gumby to Bendigo this week or another week or two on the track?

Cheers efcboy! I was hoping you would be able to attend today's training and provide us with a report.

Great news about McPhee. Knights has said that he needed to train at 'full throttle' to come into the side so that is good news.

Lets ignore the first player....let that one be a nice suprise in a few weeks time :)

Good job EfcBoy.

Gumby to Bendigo this week or another week or two on the track?

thats for the coaches to decide but i would guess that they will take a cautious approach and i'd anticipate we would see him playing for bendigo next week at the earliest.

given his injury type (which has a history of flaring up) i think they will wait and see how he pulls up from each training session to ensure everything is in order. i'd be surprised if they didn't monitor this for at least 2 weeks of full training before throwing him into a match.

Gumby 5 more weeks of training, then 4 games for Bendigo, then cotton wool, then massive pre season for 2010.

houli did as expected - would imagine he'd be in the squad of 25 but likely emergency unless someone doesn't come up.

no cotton wool for mine - if he's right to go just play him. he could be a finals wildcard x-factor that we need.

Strongly disagree. There is no way in the world he is playing senior football this season so why would you risk him? In fact, on second thoughts i would probably only give him 2 games at Bendigo at the end of the season. If he breaks down again his career is most likely finished. Im pretty sure Essendon will take an over cautious approach and not just play him when he is ready so this is good.

It's going to be interesting to see which way we go with this. The obvious comparison is Winderlich who had a similar operation. I remember reading that he was getting sore and eventually got to the point where he said '**** it', and just played and got better. I'm sure they will be a little more conservative with Gumby, but the fact remains that he needs to be able to play football.

If he completes the training then he needs to play. He had a massive pre season last year yet broke down once he started playing again at the start of this season. The issue is not his fitness but whether his body can stand up in games and recovery. Even if he plays minimal minutes at Bendigo, it would be great for his confidence to play this season I feel.

his mind and body will forget how to play the game if they keep him in cotton wool for too long.

The operation is supposed to take care of all the issues you mentioned.

No problem with him having at least 4 games at Bendigo but if he's tearing it up for them then it defeats the purpose to just leave him there.

Yu can't just blanket ban rule someone out.

What if go into Rd 21 needing to win our last 2 matches to make the 8 (or top 4 heaven forbid:D) and Lloyd does an ankle. Meanwhile Gumby has been taking double figure markss at Bendigo.

If he plays for Bendigo then he he is right to go for the seniors. That goes for every player.

Otherwise just put him out to pastrure for the rest of the season.

I said that he will not play seniors on the assumption that he will do very little for Bendigo. I would be shocked to see him have any impact at all. He has been out of the game for far too long. The game time at Bendigo will do him good and will give him some confidence for 2010.

winderlich trained well - other times i've been at training he has done limited work but he was with the main group throughout today. once again he was quite vocal with the younger players giving them some tips etc. along with welsh and watson i see winderlich being in the next rung of leaders.

i don't think he'd be doing very little for bendigo - when he resumed last year he had over 20 possessions before breaking his collarbone. this guy oozes talent and is the key to essendon's next premiership. he was leading out of the goal square quite well at training today and he is simply a natural. in my opinion he is the most talented junior footballer to arrive at the club since wanganeen/lloyd. most definitely he'll play high forward/wing at afl level as he hasn't hit the weights for upper body strength. so he wouldn't be replacing either lloyd/lucas/neagle for key position targets this season. next year after hopefully a preseason of weights could be a different story.

I was there as well, and I kept my eye on Gumby for most of the session, and he looked pretty good. lead out well, skills actually looked good for someone who was out for a long time. I also got heaps of autographs on my jumper

The players always train the day before a game.

It will probably be Thursday morning.

I think we need to relax a little on Gumby. I doubt he will play at all this year.

“At the moment I am participating in the skills training but I’m not doing any contact drills and drills that involve bending over or high agility stuff,” Gumbleton said.

Apparently its going to be raining tomorrow, does that change their plans or do they train in the rain?

What I have wanted to know for a while is....

Do we ever train of a night time?

Or do any other clubs do it?

No and No. The flood lights at Windy Hill have been down for a few years now.

I was there as well as I was setup to meet Paddy through the club. I watched Gumby closely as I was a bit excited. He only lead straight up, and if the ball wasn't between his hips and just above his head, he didn't really go after it. He is a long way to go before he is even at Bendigo.

I also got to talk to someone inside the club and had a chat to him about Gumby and he said he is a long way off and that they don't tell Gumby a lot of details as they don't want to frustrate hime, which says to me he's a fair way off.

Got to sit up in the IT area and talkt to Jobe and Reimers while I was waiting for Paddy. Reimers is a ripper, shared a good laugh with him. Paddy is very shy and such a great bloke. Had a big chat to him and had quite a few photos taken with him. He also signed a photo for me of the mark he took against Hawthorn and signed a photo the I took at the ANZAC day game for my wifes Nan, who's very sick and seemed generally concerned about her.

It was a great day and I don't know if we realise how good a club we are, when walking around inside the Gym and offices, everyone said hi to me as they went past. Tuesday showed to me once again, why I am an Essendon Supporter.

Thanks Paddy and Thankyou Essendon.
