Interesting to learn that Canadians have drug cheats too. Do hey get suspended? No, they get a gold medal.
In 1998 at the Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan, a Canadian snowboarder by the name of Ross Rebagliati won the first ever snowboard Gold medal in the Men's Giant Slalom.
Rebagliati later tested positive for marijuana and was promptly stripped of his gold medal by the International Olympic Committee. Rebagliati 'claimed' that he was an 'innocent victim' because before leaving for Japan he was at a party where other people were smoking marijuana and as a result he had ingesting second hand smoke.
The lawyers were brought in and Rebagliati appealed the IOC's decision. He was supported by the Canadian Olympic Association. In the end Rebagliati was reinstated as the gold medallist.
Marijuana (like a diuretic) is not a performance enhancing drug however was a banned drug on the IOC's list.
It would be interesting to know what the self proclaimed 'world's leading expert on drugs in sport', Richard Pound thought of this anadian 'Drug Cheat'. But at the end of the day its comforting to know the Canadians are as tough on 'drug cheat' as we are.
