Apparently Shane, never listened in class and also didn't pay attention in the ASDA inforamtion sessions.

He also doens't read much and isn't interested in the outside world.

Whilst it is not now and never has been a requirment that an Australian Cricketer be smart, surely there is a requirement that they understand the information about drug taking.

Shane seems to have been completely reckless and negligent about the issue, and in this regard deserves his suspension.

I am not sure how his A Current Affair Interview has helped his case?

Didn't you just love how he slipped in the fact he had taken more than one diuretic in the past - so much for suing the Fairfax group over its front page claims last week.

He came out looking like a stupid, spoiled, idiotic, ill-informed, naive, gullible fool....at best.

At worst he just confirmed he is a drug cheat.

i spose it is assumed that he will now drop the defamation lawsuit against the fairfax papers after they suggested he took more than one moduretic pill??
that appearance on ACA confirmed he is a liar and was not telling the whole truth about the whole saga.

he will not appeal, coz he'll get 2 years if he does.

Shane Warne will cop his 12 month suspension and be back better then ever in 2004. Hopefully, he'll have learnt from his mistake as he'll have plenty of time to think about it over the next year, that's for sure.

those of you that say all he did was made a mistake, fair enough. but no matter how stupid it might have been, there are rules to follow. He knows the rules, he broke the rules, live with the punishment. And he was not given the maximum punishment so already they have shown leniency for his stupidity.

Does a cop let you off a big fine and a loss of points off your licence because you tell him that you didn't know it was a "no right hand turn", or you didn't know that it was an 80kph zone when you sailed by him doing 100kph. NO........he tells you that stupidity and ignorance is no excuse, and you cop the same punishment that the next joe blow will get for doing the same thing (even if he was to admit that he knew full well what he was
doing, but chose to do it anyway).

I'm sorry, but I do not believe in being lenient on anyone simply because they claim ignorance or stupidity. The rules are the rules. Break them and pay the price. That's life. And if it had of been any sports person in any other country in the world , other than an Australian, then you can pretty well guarantee that Warne himself, and most other Australians, would have been screaming for their blood.

His "A Current Affair" interview has not helped him at all. If he was thinking of appealling before, I bet he has dismissed that thought by now. Sorry Shane, I love watching you bowl, but your stupidity in this whole affair has been bewildering.

Actually it was going to come out with the hearing details released today. So I'd say he deliberately disclosed this. Why he got so hysterical about fairfax report remains a mystery.

"Sook" would be a fair and accurate term to describe his recent behaviour. I'm a victim...please!

I reckon this is the end of it for him. It's one thing to say he wants to come back, but will the ACB want him?

Most likely yes but there are a few factors to consider: what if the spinners that will replace Warne do particularly well in this period? Imagine if MacGill were to take 60 wickets at an average of 25 in the 12 Tests that Warne is suspended for. Why would one assume that Warne would walk straight back into the side?

Also, it's highly unlikely that he will be brought back straight into the side for the tour of India (or is it Sri Lanka?) in Feb 2004 after having played no cricket whatsoever for 12 months. So it's almost certainly won't be until late 2004 before he's in the running to return to the Test side.

And how will Warne handle 12 months completely out of the game? He has vowed to return to international cricket but as recent events have shown, his word doesn't count for particularly much. He is still under the impression that he was dudded in this whole issue and that could easily turn into bitterness and losing his way over time.

Exactly right. He'll go dark on the ACB because he didnt get his own way. I'm expecting him to have a snipe at them after today...I agree with all of your other points. I'll also throw in the fact that ACB would be looking for new blood soon. With the Waughs and Warne out of the picture it will make it easier for them to groom some young guys while some experinced guns are still there.

I don't think you can trust anything Mr Warne says on this issue now.

Should have been a two year ban. ACB want him ready for the next Ashes series.

Even after a year he might not find it easy to get back.

Whatever happens I expect Warne to release a sequel to his autobiography - possibly in around 11 or 12 months when the news of a possible comeback is back on our minds.
