lol, McPhee and Watson are the same size :p
I would imagine that he will play all over, not just in the forward line.

Just putting this out there in terms of matchups...
Welsh - Swan
Hocking - Pendlebury
Slattery - Didak
Anyone remember Slatts destroy Kerr in that game against West Coast in '06 or '05, where Hirdy kicked that goal? I reckon he could do it..

The way I see it: It gives Welsh freedom, if I'm not mistaken Hocking did a good job on Pendles after halftime. A challenge for Slatts in the mid.
The only problem is Davis. McVeigh would give more options for us.

Win for us.
As good as he is around goals, Didak is their most creative player.
The less he has his hands on the ball the better.
I doubt Collingwood would allow that to happen.
Ben excluded, why does everyone exclude Dyson for a run with role when he's been doing it all year?
I reckon he's the obvious one for Davis.
Slattery to Didak and Welsh to Pendlebury.

I do think we need some one to keep a close eye on Swan, but i wouldn't use our best tagger on him. Collingwood have too many other damaging players who can run through the midfield. Pendlebury and Didak in particular.

McPhee in the forward pocket.
Have we gone too tall?
I think we definitely err on the edge of too tall...
That said most of our taller players have a bit of run,
so you would hope that cancels the problem out.
My main reservations with the tall timber is that it looks like it is going to be wet.
In which case bringing in Houli as an in and under defender may have been a better option than Lovett-Murray whose skills (bar that foot pass to Zaharakis on Anzac Day) leave a bit to be desired at the best of times.
I know that he is in the team because of his versatility and his hard at the man... I mean ball attitude, but I do PRAY that Knights plays him in attack and McPhee in defence.
Still a little grumpy at McVeigh, who I would have LOVED to see take Didak.
I hope that Hocking is up for it. It is arguably his biggest match of his career thus far, If he is able to negate Didak, you'd feel his spot in the team will be pretty solid.
I don't think Welsh should take Didak as we need his grunt in the middle with Jobe missing. Didak will be playing deeper with Leon and Pendles back in the team, we can't have Welsh dragged into the backline.
Swan + Davis + Pendles + Didak
Stop 2 or 3 of those guys and we are well on the way to beating Collingwood.

It's going to be wet and I reckon we'll get the ball moving in our direction more often than not.

Pendlebury, Swan and O'Bree have been our main clearance players all season.
Wellingham has fitted in nicely and is going under the radar.
Didak in the past few weeks has been racking up clearances also.
Essendon on the other hand, Watson is the team leader by a large amount in clearances and contested possies for the season.

Guys like Lonergan, Hocking, Prismall and Welsh will need to take a more active role in winning the inside ball.

Does this remind anyone else of all the Carlton threads prior to last Friday night? :o
How any Collingwood supporter could be so confident [and cocky] coming up against an arch rival who has beaten us the last two times is totally beyond me.
Anything could happen, this game is 50/50 regardless of Pendlebury's inclusion. Fringe players often lift for the big stage, the team with more stars doesn't always win. Just ask Mr. Judd and Fevola.
But you still have Leigh Brown. :o

Agree -time to step up Sam.
You can throw hocking in there as well.
If those two can support Welsh and Paddy in the middle we will really have a crack.
And if it is wet as I suspect it will be, NLM with his physcial nature and run will be very important.
When its wet, don't underestimate the runners - we all focus on the in and under but the grounds are so good these days.....

Should be a belter. Two good football teams going head to head, bring it on, may the best team win.
You found out about your team and your club last week.. a belting that sent you back to the dark old days of 3 wooden spoons in 5 years and an ex president leaking yet more criminal activity your club has become infamous forLeave this crap off our boards.
Let's stop with arguing that either side hasn't beaten anyone considerable this season. Both teams haven't had tough draws so far, and both teams have fallen to the Saints and Geelong. Both teams are in excellent form at the moment, and both have elements that are exciting to watch.
Me, though? I love to see Essendons exciting sort of football that occurs through players like Lovett-murray. I have watched him every week and he keeps delivering. The same could be said for Collingwood players such as Brad Dick, plus our usual standout players Swan, Pendles, Medhurst and Didak.
Let's just be happy we can look forward to a blockbuster of a game which will be a genuine contest, unlike Carlton last week. If only Watson was in for you guys then both teams would be going in full guns blazing. Either way, I'm very excited! We have revenge to seek, and you guys have a poition in the top 8 to fight for. There is a lot on the line.
And cmon, do you have to be stereotypical supporters and call my club filth? Where's the respect around here?

Was hoping Jetta might get a run in the conditions, but McPhee is a good inclusion.
Hopefully Lloyd and Lucas can handle the conditions. Marks in the F50 will be gold if the conditions are as expected.
Well the Bombers beat Carlton by 11 goals last week, and not that long ago Carlton beat us by 9 goals, so anything less than a 20 goal win by the Bombers would have to be considered a massive choke.
Also i can't wait for this game, should be a cracker, i just hope i don't get wet, unless we win, then i wont care.

While Pendlebury and Didak are in the middle, then we should go like this.
Welsh - Pendlebury
Hocking - Didak
If Didak goes forward then Hocking can probably go with him. But Welsh should always stay in and around the footy. We need him. And for the skeptics......f*** if Welsh can give C.Judd a pantsing then we can trust him with Pendlebury.
Down back, IMO we should man up like this.
Pears - Anthony
McPhee - Cloke
Fletcher - Medhurst
Slattery - Extra small forward (Davis/Beams/Thomas/Shaw)
If Hooker is going to ruck a bit then lets unleash him. If he is not rucking then let him run up and down the wings....when given the freedom I reckon the kid loves to take the game on. Lets go with a smallish forward line other than Lloydie and Lucas and back those two blokes in to kick 7 or so between them. Realistically if we are going to beat the Pies then it is going to be Winderlich, Lovett, Reimers, Davey, Prismall, Stanton, Dyson, etc. doing the business running them off their legs.

Mmmm so the reason you hate a club of nearing 46k members, and god knows how many more that aren't a member, because one Collingwood poster comes onto you board (someone has also mentioned he's only joined bigfooty this month or last month) and says a bit of crap. Brent Prismall.

Credit to the Pies. Had their best team on the ground tonight pretty much & while we blew away many chances in the 1st quater, they were by far the better team on the night & were always going to be.
Collingwood are definately wildcards this year & they have done well when it comes to injuries and suspensions.
I'm not overly furious with our effort later on in the game because I could see we busted our hearts out but it was never going to make any difference TBH. Our kicking & turn-overs killed us, whenever we turned it over Collingwood would capitalise.
Well done to the black & white. I'm happy it wasn't a total thrashing. Every team has their bad days, and despite our scrape of a win on Anzac Day, Collingwood seemed to have always been our bogey side.
Not taking anything away from the Maggies, absolutely sharp & smart. Lots of talent & sure put up a great display. This year's your year, you ain't pretenders like the scum. :thumbsu:
Top four is a good effort, should be proud of your boys.
Devestated, but we'll recoup. Off to smash Sydney who are without Barry Hall next week. Finals or not, I just hope we finish as high as we can this year. 8th would be a bonus.

Good game Dons.
The scoreboard wasn't as indicative of the game as it could have been.
Lots of good signs for your blokes.
I have to admit I really enjoyed that win after the ANZAC day game.
What ever you do don't go Richmond or Carlton this week. All is not lost.
Cheers.:thumbsu:

I'd be disappointed if the posters on this board continued turning on each other as they already have started tonight; as I've said, we're not Richmond, and we're certainly not Carlton.
Our finals campaign never completely hinged on this game, and Collingwood are a better team than we are right now. We're still thereabouts in the 6-10th placed teams, and think that - on our day - we can beat Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Port, Sydney and the Bulldogs.
We are a young side, so we're going to see some inconsistencies over a game and season, but should we win half of our remaining games, we'll be a chance to make the finals. Considering we're still to play Brisbane (in Melbourne), Fremantle, Hawthorn, Richmond, Sydney, West Coast and the Bulldogs, I'm remaining optimistic.

Don't be ****ing stupid, the reason we played unattractive football, was Malthouse flooding. The coward was afraid to take us on, and with Watson and McVeigh out, the weak dog took the easy way out :thumbsu::thumbsu:
What? The winning way?
Good game and have been very impressed with Essendon's improvement over the year, certainly didn't pick them going this well. Credit to Knights and the playing group. Wouldn't mind Sam Lonegan at Collingwood, severely underrated.

Was tongue in cheek, absy has been acting like a ******** and doesn't deserve the satisfaction. Good win by you boys and well earned, that said at one stage there was the biggest flood I have ever seen, Cloke was the only Pies player outside our 50, and only by about 10 , I was actually surprised how quickly you got targets back inside 50, good gut running.
That was a Malthouse win, coached very well, just disappointed teams stop our attractive play in order to win. With our contested ball winners out it was the smart thing to make as contested as possible.
