View Full Version : Essendon v Collingwood: Who Will Win
The Donners
3 Jul 2009, 08:29
With Collingwood fighting for a top 4 position and Essendon trying to consolidate it's spot in the 8, this contest should be one of the matches of the year!
I predict Essendon by 18 points, making the most of any dry spell during the game. Essendon showed last week how determined they are to break Essendon's finals drought.
I'm going with the 'I'll tip the opposition so no matter what, I'll have a win tonight' approach.

I'm predicting essendon by 34.
Ryder to destroy Fraser in the ruck, Lonergan to have an absolute blinder and pick up B.O.G, just in front of Welsh and Lovett :thumbsu:

I would have said Essendon if it were dry.
However the rain over the last two days, will bring our speed/skills type style back to earth, and Collingwood have the bigger bodies.
However being so fit, the bigger bodies may tire. and we might overrun them.
Pies by 10 points.
(that way i win either way too)

That would be fantastic, I've got Ryder (brought him in a few weeks ago) and Lovett (had him from the start) in my SC team! :thumbsu:
Collingwood have pretty much their best 22 on the park.
We're missing Watson, McVeigh, and Hille, three of our very best, as well as other depth players like Laycock and Gumby.
I think we well and truly have to be the underdogs on this one, it's not like the Carlton or Hawthorn games at all.

A few people have been suggesting that the wet weather would be a disadvantage to Essendon.... but it started raining and getting slippery with 5 minutes left on Anzac Day..... and we all know what happened after that!:D

Exactly. We're still probably as close to our best 22 as we've been all year (actually probably 2 weeks ago vs Melb), but those 3 being out may just prove the difference in the end.

It PAINS me to tip against us, but I think having Jobe Watson out will be the difference. It's hard to fill that hole.
But boy if they pull this off without Watson, McVeigh etc. who knows what's possible for the rest of the year.
Pies by 20 ish for mine. :(

bombers by 20
the pies arent as good as there ladder posi says
- freo were competitive til after half time when the injury toll kicked in.
- brisbane is the only top 8 side they have beaten (rnd 4).
- there 5 win streak consists of WCE, PA, MEL, SYD and FREO
- there 8 wins consist of: MELB X2, FREO, BRIS, ROOS, WCE, PA and SYD. apart from the brisbane win theres not too much quality in the opposition.
it could well just be me and my dislike for collingwood in the 4 i guess but we'll see 2nite!!

100 % agree :thumbsu:
This + the fact that we are on fire at the moment is why we will dominate this game !

yeah, the umpire single handily got you back into the game!!

 Go have a cry. The umpires didn't kick a goal from 40m out near the boundary, the umpires didn't kick the winning goal under pressure.

Was this before or after Rocca infringed then played on like a meat head :o
Essendon by 27.
Lovett 4 goals.

yes thats the decision i speak of,
If fletcher had any muscle on his puny body he would have been able to stand his ground and the ump wouldnt have got sucked in. (Rocca's arms werent around his shoulder and he didnt push him in the back)
anyway its done and dusted, you got the 4 points and life goes on.
my prediction: collingwood by 3 goals and AFL players to start staging for free kicks in the not too distant future by diving to the ground much like soccer players do!

it was the right decision. he clearly pushed, there were two actions, and he knew it was a free kick against him and foolishly played on and kicked the goal. and btw Fletcher>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rocca

Watson out is a huge loss, however perhaps it will give Hocking a chance to show what he is able to do.
I think we will win by 3-4 goals - personally as long as we can run the ball and kick straight, we have a good chance.
One thing last week showed us was that a couple of people don't make that much of a difference.
Last week we obviously missed McVeigh and McPhee and won by 69 points, this week we miss McVeigh and Watson and although it sounds bad, we've still got Stanton, Welsh, Lonergan, Hocking, Lovett and Davey to push through the middle.
I'd have taken Collingwood even with Watson in, but for those changing to Collingwood just because Jobe is out.....That's a big call.

if collingwood get on top where in trouble, but if bombers can stay with them to three quarter time, pace will eventually get the better of the pies just lke the GREAT VICTORY ON ANZAC DAY!!!!!!!!

Since ANZAC Day we've picked up Prismall, Reimers, Hooker and Welsh, we've lost Watson, Zaharakis and Jetta. We lost Hille in the first couple of minutes and so played with only 21 players as well as without Hille.
I think we're in a far better position than ANZAC Day. Even with them adding Didak and Shaw.

I just want to say good luck for tonight, I hope the bombers get ova the line. You've played some nice football this year. Collingwood are arseholes and deserve nothing but misery and I hope that's what you give them tonight. The fans are clowns and need to witness a nice belting. good luck!

Nick off back to your own board you flog.
Arrogance? Collingwood won the poll, so we're not that surprised they won the game.
Idiot.
