Slater 204-Aren't the pitches in the West Indies like those Perth tracks Slats loves so much? Horses for courses there isn't a better suited spare batsmen for the Windies .

i'd love to see him in the side, but i hardly think one innings against a domestic outfit is going to dislodge hayden or langer.

I would be very surprised if Michael Slater played for Australia again. I'd be more in favour of taking someone like Michael Clarke as the spare batsman to the West Indies.

Clarkes time will come soon enough as will a few others, guys like Slats and Blewett would be more than handy guys to have 'on call' still for a year or two , or maybe they'll get a run against Bangladesh to give some middle order guys a rest.
Slater, like Elliott, was long ago branded "never to play another Test" by the selectors.

I think Shane Warne has more of a chance of being picked for the Windies tour than Slater ...

Apparently, Slater was branded by some within the ACB "never to play again" after the way he handled his first dumping from the side in 1996/97, so things can change quickly.
His age counts against him, but I wouldn't completely rule out Slater's return as a Test opener. Langer's Test performances over the past 12 months aren't as impressive as some might think, and Langer is one of those players who get dropped from the side rather quickly.

but more importantly, i dont think they will even mention tampering with the opening pair unless hayden has a form slump.

Langers numbers are still alright, 250 of those did come in one dig and those quickfire 30-odds out of 70 or 80 get us off to some quick starts, he's safe for now, it'll interesting to see what the twins and Kats**t , i mean Katich get tomorrow, 600 even 700 isn't out of the question, especially if Haddin explodes.

Unless Michael Slater somehow acquires a series of photos featuring John Buchanan, Trevor Hohns, and all of the other Aussie selectors frolicking around together in some form of perverted, cross-dressing, S&M, B&D session in a seedy motel room in the backstreets of Bangkok, then he needn't dust off his baggy green just yet ....

Figures aren't so impressive when you take away the 250 he scored in the Boxing Day Test. In his last 11 Tests, he's scored one double century and two fifties - not that impressive.
As it is, his fairly lacklustre form has been camoflagued by Hayden's outstanding form, so that they have still been getting good opening partnerships.

i think when people start fiddling with statistics like that, you have to ask yourself why they do not take the low scores out as well.

No thanks. Slater has had his time in the middle and blew it (along with his temper in India).
Just 12 months ago he couldn't make NSW's best side and now one solid knock is putting him back in the frame.
The WACA pitch was a batters paradise anyway. Sandra Sully would have been able to score a ton on it.
I still think the likes of Maher, Hussey (if he goes back to opener and not #4!) and Cox would be ahead of Slater and Elliott in the pecking order.

From my memory, a lot of the West Indies decks keep slow and low.

Slater is to much of a boundary hitter.If you bowl tight to him he cant work it around and he throws it all away.I have seen him do it time and time again.
