There has been a fair bit of talk about ' road rage' as an increasing social phenomenon, and bits and pieces in the media about an increasing trend towards aggressive driving etc. Assuming that nobody in bigfootyland has definitive statistical data on the subject, I would be interested in peoples' perceptions on the subject. What are people noticing in this area? Do people think driver aggression is increasing? Personally I suspect it is.

One example I have noticed a few times recently is where you are motoring along and notice there is a parked car ahead of you on the left. You look in the mirror, notice that the car behind you is some way back, and stick on your indicator to let them know you're moving to the right. The vehicle behind you then accelerates so as to 'cut you off' and prevent you from making this manoeuvre. They are quite prepared to risk an accident so as to get in front of you. There is a complete lack of courtesy and patience, and the motorist in question is not prepared to wait a 'nanosecond' for you. It appears that this is a contest that has to be won at all costs.

What do people out there think on this topic- do you agree or disagree that driver agression is increasing?
