Australians will soon have the opportunity to see some of the country's best professional in action thanks to the new 'Superboxer' series on Network Ten's 24-hour sports channel ONE.
Over four Thursday nights in July some of Australia's elite boxers will fight it out at exclusive venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra with all fights to be televised LIVE on ONE.
The Superboxer series will include fighters such as Sam Soliman who is well known to all, fighting Anthony Mundine on three occasions, the first time losing controversially in what many believe should have been Mundine's first loss; former IBO super featherweight champion, Billy "The Kid" Dib; along with John "Hoppa" Hopoate who will fight in what will be his first fight since losing to former World Champion Oliver McCall.
Female boxer Erin McGowan will also feature highly in the series. McGowan has a record of 9-0 with 7 knockouts and is currently ranked #10 in the world in the WBA women's rankings.
International fighters include Kenichi "Machinegun" Yamaguchi and Osumana Adama.
The events will be hosted by ONE commentator Greg Rust and renowned boxing personality Johnny Lewis along with commentators Paul Kent, Matt Brooks and Daryl Beattie.
ONE program manager Gus Seebeck said the acquisition of the Superboxer series was a coup for the new channel and was sure to attract a passionate audience.
"Elite boxing has long been part of the Australian sporting landscape and further broadens the content offering on ONE. The return of professional boxing on free-to-air television will be welcomed not just by dedicated boxing fans, but also through the high calibre of this event, general sports lovers as well"

Does anyone on here know about Dibb's background?

I read that he is from Lebanon originally, and according to his wikipedia he is friends with that arrogant paki boxer "prince" from the UK.

I’m embarrassed for Australian boxing…what a load of bullshit! Dib should have been disqualified for his effort, such a blatant foul, hitting Yamaguchi while he was on the ground! The referee’s eyes were directly on Dib when he hit Yamaguchi on the ground and yet he did nothing. Very lame effort by both the referee and Dib if you ask me. Rules are pretty clear are they not? – If you score a knockdown of your opponent, you must go to the farthest neutral corner while the referee makes the count. – If you “floor” your opponent, you cannot hit him when he’s on the canvas. That fight was a shambles. And I hear there was another foul in an earlier match as well! What an embarrassment to Australian boxing if this is the calibre of professional referees that we have.

The whole thing was amateur night, you look at that then watch something like HBO and think wow we really are 20 years behind.

I'll still watch though, Its better than nothing.

I don't think I have so emphatically agreed with an entire post as much as I did with this one.

Disgusting from Dib, inexcusable from the ref.

I read in the paper today that the Dib result is subject to a "review".

Apparently the earlier fight (the one with the deliberate elbow) which was called as a draw is also under review.

This whole circus typefies everything that is wrong with boxing:- From my time in amateur boxing the rules were pretty clear cut: If you punch someone when they are down and they are unable to continue because of concussion then you get disqualified - likewise if you elbow someone and the resultant cut causes the fight to be stopped (someone cannot box properly with such a massive cut dripping blood in their vision) then you should also be disqualified. No ifs or buts about it.

Did anyone catch the Hopoate fight last night. One of the most boring fights ever, just a big cycle of 1 or 2 punches then clinch then a punch or two and clinch. The guy he was fighting against was 43 yrs old and Hopoate still couldn't knock him down

And what makes it worse, is that was actually for the HW title. That Edwards bloke was decent though, Barry Hall would claim that title in his first year.
