The first unofficial ODI match between the two A teams was today.
Pakistan A - 339
Umar Akmal 104 (70)
Sheharyar Ghani 93 (123)
Brett Geeves 3/46
Doug Bollinger 3/53
Shaun Tait 3/74
Australia A - 193
Cameron White 42 (55)
Jason Krejza 40 (49)
Tim Paine 40 (62)
Pretty easy win in the end for Pakistan A. It looks like Umar just took the game away from the Australians with his 100. Good bowling from both Geeves and Bollinger, Tait was quite expensive but it was his first game for a while and he bowled all 10 overs which is what really matters.
The batting looks to be a worry, and it's the batting line up which has me confused.
Paine
Henriques
Ferguson
Voges
White
Krejza
Bailey
First of all why is George Bailey even in the team? Surely there are better options, and the fact that he is batting at 7 and below Krejza would suggest the coaches don't have the most faith in him. Also, why is Henriques opening the batting? Do we really have no other openers? Marsh and Warner were picked in the initial squad, I think Marsh may be injured but I haven't heard any reason why Warner would be missing.
Hopefully things get better in the next match.

Bailey came in so far down the order because of an injury i think.

Bowlers got taken to it looks like. Expensive from Tait. Yeah, batting line-up looks ordinary.

Pakistan A - 188
Geeves 3/32
McKay 2/25
Bollinger 2/42
Henriques 2/46
Holland 1/42
A much, much better bowling performance from the bowlers today. Tait was rested, and that has to be expected given he is only returning. The rest of the bowlers stood up though, and it will be interesting to see how batsmen go seeing as the Pakistanis struggled.
Our batting line up does look much better today though.

Nice, should be able to chase that down fairly easily.

Pakistan A - 188
Australia A - 2/189 (34.2 overs)
Ferguson 72* (78)
Voges 49* (53)
Warner 29 (25)
Paine 28 (52)
Easy win for Australia A, with 8 wickets and 15 overs in hand. Great to see Ferguson and Voges getting amongst the runs, particularly Ferguson after a quiet series so far. It's amazing how much of a difference having an actual opener in the team makes. I'm sure Paine would have liked to have scored a little quicker than he did though.
The third and final ODI is on Thursday, and the series is up for grabs.

It's amazing how much of difference chasing 180-odd compared to 330-odd makes.

True, I daresay we would have gotten closer in the first game had we gone with Warner opening instead of Henriques though. The batting order just looks so much stronger with Warner at the top, and Henriques at 7.

Good to see Geeves keeping his name towards the front of the queue. It's a rather long one with Lee and Clark back around now.

3rd Unofficial ODI
In: Tait, Krejza
Out: Geeves, Bailey
Australia A - 5/316
Paine 134 (136)
Ferguson 48 (57)
Warner 28 (33)
Voges 23 (27)
A fairly amazing innings from Tim Paine at the top of the order. I must say, I never rated him that highly as a batsman. But this innings is certainly a good start, and hopefully he will be able to carry it into the upcoming domestic season. Looks like Paine has cemented himself as the #3 wicket keeper though.
And another good solid innings from Ferguson at #3. I would think he has his well and truly guaranteed himself a spot on the ODI tour of England. As for the England tour, the form of Voges has been much better than that of White. Hopefully the selectors can see that too.
With a bowling line-up of Tait, Bollinger, McKay, Henriques, Holland and Kreja, you would like to think that we can defend this total quite easily. A lot will rest on the shoulders of Umar Akmal for Pakistan A.

Paine can bat. He started out with Tasmania as an opening batsman and scored a double century very early on. His batting suffered a bit when he went full time with the gloves, which obviously isn't very surprising as there was a stage he was opening AND keeping in the 4 dayers.

Australia A - 5/316 (50 overs)
Pakistan A - 3/182 (32 overs)
Khalid Latif 100* (90)
Australia A will be looking for a wicket sooner rather than later. Both batsman in appear to be quite settled, and there is still plenty of fire power to come. Henriques limped off after bowling just 2 balls, with Holland and Tait both going at 7 runs an over.

Looks like a put a jinx on Pakistan A.
Latif hits Holland straight to Ferguson, and he is out for 100.

Australia A - 5/316
Paine 134 (136)
Ferguson 48 (57)
Pakistan A - 301 (49.3 overs)
Bollinger 3/53
Tait 2/69
Holland 2/78
McKay 1/54
Krejza 1/41
A 2-1 series win for Australia A.
Good form from Paine and Ferguson with the bat, while all the bowlers bowled pretty well. The return of Tait is a big positive, and he picked up 4 wickets from his 2 games. While the form of Bollinger and Geeves throughout the series is also good news for Australia.
There is a 20/20 match on Saturday to end the tour. Ferguson, Voges, Warner, White, Tait, Geeves, Krejza and Bollinger will all be looking to finish on a high and to show why they should be on the plane to England.

Tait's economy was a real worry, he will need to get that down if he wants to be considered for Aussie selection.

Australia A - 3/89 (10 overs)
Paine 27 (11)
Warner 20 (12)
Ferguson 1 (5) - apparently run out after some confusion with Warner
Voges 26* (18)
White 11* (15)
With Bailey and Krejza to come, we wouldn't want to lose a wicket any time soon. Hopefully Voges and White can see us through the next 5 or 6 overs at least.

Pakistan A - 170
Australia A - 3/173 (17.2 overs)
White 73* (43)
Voges 47* (34)
Fairly comfortable win in the end for Australia A. White and Voges put on a 4th wicket partnership of 120 off just 76 balls.
Looking toward the England/Australia limited overs series, a few guys would have put themselves in the frame for selection. White, Voges and Ferguson all have serious cases for selection, while someone like Paine could be a chance. I still think Manou would be picked ahead of Paine, but if Haddin is rested entirely both could find themselves in the squad.
As for the bowlers, Tait had a pretty successful return to cricket. While both Geeves and Bollinger have kept their names in the selectors minds. McKay put in some good performances and has joined the queue, but would be a long way back.

Very impressive T20 win there today. Great batting performance by a couple.

Paine is showing he can score quick which I had my doubts about. I would have Paine ahead of Manou in the ODI side if Haddin is rested. Tait hasn't been great this series but in T20 him going at 8 an over isn't such a worry.
Nice to see White finally deliver.
Nice to see White finally deliver.
it's not so much the performance here, it's the performance when he steps up to the national team.
