View Full Version : Why does Bichel go unnoticed

Andy Bichel has almost been singlehandedly responsible for two victories in this world cup, oh and not against the minnows but NZ AND ENGLAND. What makes me ill is how the commentators talk about him, last night Brett Lee who i am a huge fan of got spanked early on by the kiwi batsmen. Yet not a word about how he is either to short or was bowling half volleys, yet when Bichel came on there was all this talk about him falling away and striving for extra pace, oh and how he was spraying the ball around, yet after three overs he had figures of 1-3 when previously the batsmen were getting on top, the tight bowling of Bichel and Harvey provided Lee with the setting and game atmosphere that makes his bowling devastating. Oh and of course i have overlooked the fact that Bichel scored 60 odd out of our 200 odd. This really ****ed me off and MARK TAYLOR YOU WERE THE MAIN OFFENDER

I reckon Bix is a legend. But you have to factor his performances against the "NSW correction factor" which this year means he has to take double the wickets at half the economy rate of the weakest link from NSW to be rated even.

BTW I spat it after the 7 /20 and 34 no effort when the first thread on here was all about Bevo and not Bix.

Its possible that Bichel has gone unnoticed because prior to this world cup his performances wernt really that great particularly in the VB series and the Ashes Test series just gone by and in my view has always been regarded as a back up bowler to guys like Mcgrath,Lee and Gillespie. After his performances in this world cup so far you would think that he would now be able to hold a permanent spot in the side

I think Bichel is our 4th best bowler after McGarth, Gillespie and Lee, however he is easily the best batsman out of any of Australias fast bowlers.

I would now rate him better then our other all rounders so he should get the alrounder's spot (he is starting to remind me of Simon O'Donnell when he played except he is a better bowler).

Andy Bichel goes unnoticed because he is not that good. Sure he has the occassional blinding game but when it is all done & dusted, he is not the first choice by the selectors. He only gets a game when someone is injured and that is a sure sign that he is never destined for anything but cameo appearances.

Has he / is he playing English County cricket ? 'Cause I think his asking price has just gone up 100%.

He has played County cricket OldLion, was it with Hampshire? One of the commentators from Tuesday night mentioned it when he was batting, but I've forgotten. He has scored a first class ton with his county side, whoever it was.

He has scored a Pura Cup ton for QLD as well. (only against Victoria but)

I am about 90% sure he plays for Worcestershire and has scored 2 Centuries for them (I think atleast 1 of those was in a 50 overs game).

Add to this the 100 he has scored for Queensland.

A year ago, I would have said Bichel was not good enough to be on the Australian team. But he's proved himself in both forms of the game.

Bichel is the best team player on the Australian side

The two times he's stood up and played well in the World Cup have been the two times in which we've needed him most. He hasn't really had a bad game either where he's been spanked around.

I wouldn't be surprised if he got man of the series if he has another couple of standout performances.

Unfortunately I agree, He will only ever be our "reserve" bowler but what a reserve to have. A passionate proud team player who always gives 100% whether he playing or is 12th Man. A guy that ALWAYS steps up when asked to. Any success he has is well deserved and hard earnt. A pity the Poms or Pakistan dont have a Bichel in their side, they might perform a bit better rather than underachieving

Andy is a God. He's a better one day player than Lee

I think the all-rounder Australia has been desperately looking for has been found

Not sure about that. Watson is still our number one all-rounder IMO.

Simon O'Donnell was a very good batsmen and a useful medium pace bowler - Bichel is the reverse IMO - however - I think we can play the 4 quicks in a ODI with Hogg as 5th bowler - as Bichel is more effective with the bat than Harvey - so last 5 would be Hogg, Bichel, Lee, Gillespie and McGrath.

Getting to back to O'Donnell - he played for Australia in tests as the 3rd quick and batted at 7 or 8 - use to be at 5 or 6 for Vics.

My memory is hazy on his ODI career stuff.

What, you mean like him winning International Cricketer of the Year based on his ODI performances alone (he didn't play a test that season)?
