I like Ronnie. Gotta wonder what he's over there for.
We have 5 quicks:
Hilf, Siddle, MJ, Clark, Lee (1 or 2 are going to miss each game).
And an 'all-rounder':
Watson.
Was McDonald ever going to get a game?
Surely it would have been better to take a young batsman (Ferguson maybe) over there?

Ronald McDonald gets a free pass at maccas the whole team depends on him
In hindsight it looks that way but there were big question marks over Clark and Hauritz at the time.
We just did not know how effective Hauritz would be given he is a good off-spinner at best. Clark was coming off a long term injury so it was unkown how he would come up. If they were not performing you would think the selecters would of taken the same set up as in SA.
Lee would have made the team purely for strike power and not for the ability to apply pressure obviously so the were not competing.
He's good a giving out the Powerades at the end of the day's play.

Nah.
You know how the South Africans have the Affirmative Action policy where they have to play a certain number of coloured players?
Well, we have a similar policy to try and help Australia's lamest people; gingers - so we have to have a ranga in the squad now.

As mentioned insurance plus the selectors don't like dropping players that performed in past series.

The same reason Fleming went in 2001, the same reason Rackemann went in 1989.
You pick a squad - when you get there, you see who's in form, who is fit, who is best at getting the particular opposition batsmen out (they can't all say 'I'll get Bopara!'), and how well the team is balanced.
Rackemann was picked as our main strike weapon in 1989 - 'Alderman - too old. Lawson - won't bowl well in England. Hughes - ha!'. Rackemann never played a test.

Mate, I'm worried about this obsession you have with rangas :).
By the way, redhead women are hot!
I'm a big fan of the redhead. Has done his job (with the ball anyway) in each of the tests that he has played. Unfortunately, at the moment there's quite a few guys who are doing better than him.

Obviously, CA thought it was appropriate that he spend the Aus winter up North to get some sun.
Being a CA contracted player requires that you have a tan...
