View Full Version : TV GO! (Channel 99)

GO! offically started broadcasting today. I for one am very happy with this as it is another step forward for Australian television. I'm not saying this channel is going to be the best as it is filled with a lot of garbage (The Hills and other bullshit), but it adds another choice and that has to be a good thing.
I work night shift so usually around 1-3am TV hits infomercial time, even OneHD suffers from the occassional hour or more of them, but so far the programming guide shows no infomercials on GO!
Off to a reasonable start, it's not top quality viewing, but National Lampoon's Vaction is better then anything else on right now. :thumbsu:
Unfortunately Regional WA will have to wait until 2030 to get these new channels  I think it will become better than channel 9 proper as long as broadcast times remain steady unlike the aforementioned.

Try the WGC Golf on ONE. Much better than what's on GO.
But yeah, GO is another big step forward for Australian television, although Survivor, Gossip Girl and Seinfeld will be the only shows I'll be watching on there for the moment.
Channel 7 needs to hurry up and introduce their second channel. Ten have succeeded with sport on ONE, and now 9 have played their hand with entertainment on GO, it'll be interesting to see what 7 comes up with.
I'm betting it'll be a lifestyle/factual/reality channel.
7 - 24 hour showing of Home and Away ;)

Golf is easily the most boring thing that has ever been shown on television. I'd rather watch SBS's station closed weather updates or Fish TV on 31.
lol golf for people who like funny golf attire
I would like Seven to go lifestyle/ documentary instead of rehashing another 'entertainment channel'. It will take some audacity to do the former, but Im thinking they will go with the latter.

Lifestyle/doco would be great, but the rights to a lot of the best doco's have been bought by the ABC and SBS. I'd prefer the ABC to make ABC3 purely doco's and 7 to do a mix of lifestyle and entertainment.

think there was a thread here in regards to 7's content. it will actually be 3 channels with a large range of stuff.
with abc, apparently it could be up to 6 channels similar to the bbc in england. abc 3 is going to be a kids channel which will hit the air just before the big summer break, abc 4, 5 and 6 have been labelled as a possible news, education and doco channels. but expect a lot more on free to air in the next year or 2.

I've known about the large amount of channels planned by free to air networks, but never knew the plans for content. Thanks. :thumbsu:
As much as free to air might catch up in general terms, as long as paid TV shows more sport and doco's I'll keep paying for it.

I like Go so far - great start with Wipeout. Some of the other shows look really good too.

I'd rather watch my grandmother getting her arsehole waxed than most of the content on GO. Seriously, how dumb are you people?
As for golf, it is one of the most watched sports in the world. Would much rather be watching the greatest athlete on the planet ply his trade than anything else GO could ever dream of showing.
Good start for GO!
Scheduled to start at 6:30pm. Started at 6:32pm. Not even with the launch of a new channel can they get the start times correct.

So my intelligence is directly related to the fact I dislike golf and prefer an actual TV show over a 3 hour Danoz Direct ad?

yep, was looking forward to the new channel a few weeks back, but having watched some of the promos on loop last week, and flicking on and off since it's start on sunday night, the content is ****in disgraceful. it's all just shite!
in general, the Nine Network has gone down the shitter since Kerry passed away and the network sold to private equity. their news and current affairs is just tabloid & sensationalised filth nowadays, and i still cant believe people continue to take in the opinions of aussie d-grade celebs and the continually rehashed vision of 20-to-1.
i know they're now targeting a younger demographic since the packers, and providing a service to attract advertisers who appeal to the 20s/30s with disposable income is now paramount, but the dumbing down all of their content has made it virtually unwatchable, and is now worse than the other two commercial networks.
people are sex-relationship-reality & celebrity obsessed these days. people have no lives of their own and need to revel in lives of others. ****in sad.

For some reason on my set top box channel 9 and channel 99 don't have any sound. Channel 90 (the HD 9 has sound, despite me not having an HD tv!).

Channel surfing loking to see if there was anything on any channel I flicked through Go! (which I doubt I will ever watch a single program on, well, maybe Seinfeld occasionally) and what was on? An ad for Fatty Dancing. One episode on their main channel before being uncermoniously puled, and now its supposedly worth advertising on Go! Nine are clearly not taking the channel seriously.

Channel 99 was just normal Channel 9 for me tonight.
Anybody else having the same issue?
Gygnell (that's the guys name isn't it?) you're about to resign mate.
Doubling the numbers of OneHD before the end of the year? Good luck with that.

The Big Bang Theory is on there. What a awesome song it is. Fricking hilarious. Shame I haven't got a HD TV to watch it. Foxtel doesn't have it either :(

Big Bang Theory is a very funny show if you like geek humour which I do.
I have them all on DVD anyways as I thought Nine would never get around to showing them.

black_hart.
Are they up to Season 4 yet? They're showing Season 2 on CH9 at the moment I think. Its a very funny show. Its a rating bonzana in the US. 2 more series have been confirmed aswell, which is good. Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) has been nominated for a Emmy award too. Its such a awesome show.

Season 3 starts september in the states as far as I know.
Jim Parsons as Sheldon clearly owns this show but the supporting cast is quite good.

Looking forward to it. You got to like geek humour to like it in my opinion. Such a good show. Sheldon is a star, Penny *drools*, there all quite funny. Great cast.

after a week of giving this station a good go, i can say this...
this channel really, really blows. while i'm stoked that survivor is... that's it! the ONLY other decent show i've seen on this station is seinfeld, but i've seen them a million times.
there's a reason that aaaall these shows are palmed off to not be watched on pay tv (dog the bounty hunter? wtf?) for the most part, there are reasons that these shows were act (dance ur arse off? shit...)
ONE HD continues to expand and grow and become a better network (with soccer and UFC being great recent admissions)... but GO has given us nothing.
GO! to a different channel, honestly what is wrong with them? Basically 23 hours of RUBBISH or ancient shows, maybe one decent program a day. ONE decent program a day.
Waste of TV space, definite highlight of the people in charge of that station, absolutely clueless about television. I laughed a few nights ago when they had three straight hours of CSI in primetime, even your most hardcore CSI fan probably wouldn't handle three straight repeats filling their entire evening.
Hats off to Ch10, ONE is a great station, lots of new & original content (the paintball show is awesome!). They've added UFC, Bundesliga (German soccer). That is how you make a niche station successful, put some bloody effort into it.

Ten have certainly caught the other commercial stations with their pants down with one HD. A FTA sports channel FTW. The bundesliga is such a great addition. Very smart stuff from ten.

Nothing much on ONE appeals to me as I'm not a massive sports nut. The only thing recently that was interesting was the world swimming champs which are usually on Nine.
As for those ancient shows they all appeal to me. I love classics like Charlie's Angels,Starsky & Hutch,Jetsons etc but that's just my taste.

Awesome. Used to love watching the Serie A highlights show on SBS 10-15 years ago. Hopefully One will also secure a Primera Liga game as well.

Well the missus is on GO - yawn! I wonder when 7 releases their extra channel...
This utter garbage (Survivor aside) proves beyond doubt Nein is the worst commercial station we have.
Se7en are pretty bad, but the post Kerry era at Nein has cemented it clearly as the worst with their programming quality.

While the stuff on One may only appeal to sports nuts (I admit I only like some sports on there like NBA), you have to say at least they are offering decent quality programs. Go! is simply a channel of offcuts that scrapes the bottom of the barrel (look at the show on now - Dog the Bounty Hunter?)

Yep, and as well as the one game live a week, there's also the Bundesliga highlights of the weekend's games that they show, which will be on at 10PM tonight (Victorian time).
Also, great news if true re Serie A as well, ONE has been a great addition to FTA television in Australia.
Go is not actually officially launched for another couple of months. The current version is a bit of a test run.
It’s pretty difficult for the stations to start new channels from scratch. ONE, GO!, and Plus 7 will all start slowly and slowly build with better shows as time goes on.

No chance they will get the EPL.
No chance they will get the EPL.
There is always a chance, but they'd have to compete for the rights with the purchasing power of Foxtel (ie News Ltd)... not really viable given the financial mess Ten's parent company is in.

Yep, the only chance is if the EPL split the rights. Don't know if they are big enough to do that.

It's not that bad. The replays of Frasier, Seinfeld and the Big Bang Theory are alright if there's nothing else on.
The 'new' content is pretty poor though. The only good show I've found is New Amsterdam, although since it was cancelled after half a season I imagine that will be short lived. Occassionally they have a decent movie.
