Greetings Bomber fans. I watching a video of Kevin Sheedy featuring his famous jacket wave after a victory over West Coast in 1993 and it got me thinking.

Do supporters for either club still do the Jacket Wave now that Sheedy is gone? Was it always limited to West Coast games or was it used in other matches as well?

There was nothing like the effect of 80,000 jackets waving around the MCG. It was awesome. I hope it's not gone.

Only against WC and I still sometimes wave a scarf after a win against them.

It's not as big as it used to be, but i'll still wave the scarf after a win against WC. I noticed WC fans we're waving after their recent win against us so it still has life in it.

I was there that day I think we beat them at the MCG in a qualifying final. My god, what an experience. The whole MCG crowd (incl the MCC where I was sitting) waiving the scarves. PS: I think we've beaten them more recently in a EF at Telstra Dome. This was back in the mid/late 90s i believe.

Just sensational.

edit*: after a bit of research, it was the 1996 Semi Final ... we'd go on to lose the Prelim the following week thanks to Plugger's kick after the siren. :(

Just sensational.2002, to be precise. ;)

The jacket was first waved by Sheedy in 1993 after a Home and Away win against the WC Eagles at the MCG.

And 3 goals to Fletch!

If Gumby doesn't come along as expected we might just reinvent Old Red and add another 6 years to his career. Pears&Co will have the backline covered by then. No one could spoil the Inspector on the lead and he'd be dangerous anywhere within 75m of the big sticks.

Thousands of delighted Eagle fans waved their scarves when the siren sounded the other week at Subiaco. They live for it when playing us.

As me and my son made our way down the stairs, I was wishing i had half a dozen grenades on me to throw into the sea of blue and yellow....

It's even worse when Fremantle win against us....that pathetic song burns the ears.

We still love the jacket games. Great rivalry still there.

West Coast presented Sheeds with a half west coast/ half essendon jacket at his retirement game against us. We in the west have a soft spot for that crazy man.

It's definitely not as big as it once was. Last year when we beat the Eagles at Etihad Stadium, I don't recall all that many people waving their scarves and jackets. I think it has died down a bit with the departure of Kevin Sheedy, certainly from Essendon's point of view anyway.

The jacket was first waved by Sheedy in 1993 after a Home and Away win against the WC Eagles at the MCG.
And was in turn repeated by the Eagles soon after when they won at Subiaco. This is why the crowd went nuts in the finals a few years later because Sheeds and Malthouse were egging each other on. Surprised we never saw it with Ess vs. Coll.

I was at the WC win at Etihad last year, there was some scarf waving but not much.
