"It has been very flattering to see my name mentioned in so many circles since Australia's crushing win at Headingley and I'd be a liar if I said the prospect of playing at The Oval hadn't occupied my mind a lot.

"In fact, that has been the case to such an extent that the other day I woke up at 6.30am from a terrible dream.

"There is a nightmare a lot of cricketers experience that they can't get their pads on when they are due in to bat.

Haha.

I've had a very similar nightmare, although admittedly it was many moons ago when I was still only a kid playing in the national U/17s carnival.

You'd be surprised how many cricketers get something similar (either pads or shoes won't do up) on the night before a very big game.

I reckon Marcus Trescothick's nightmare would be to be picked for The Oval, gets dismissed for 'a pair' by Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle, and he receives an absolute rubbishing from the English tabloids. Which makes me wonder, where has all the cricket development in England gone to? Why risk going for guys like Trescothick and Stuart Law, whereas there are younger players on the county system willing to be picked for England?

I was listening to the radio commentary in one of the tour games Australia played and they were interviewing an English player, wasn't sure who because I didn't catch the name. They asked him about who was next in line for England and he mentioned guys like Moore, Denly, etc who performed for the English Lions. Then he was asked who was the most promising batsman young talent coming through in the English system and he couldn't name one. He went on to say that these young players don't get enough opportunity because of the Kolpack players and was pretty much ridiculing the system.

The county system is rubbish they should abolish it & just have 10 sides with all regions covered.

The counties have systematically failed in their side of the bargain ie producing players good enough to excel at Test cricket but they can't survive on their own & are basically subsidised by the ECB who fulfill their side of the bargain by raising loads of money for them every year.

There's nothing more sickening than seeing counties spend this money given to them by the ECB on overseas players.

We can't juts blame Kolpack, we were rubbish before they came over.

I used to have dreams about running into an open goal in footy only to lose my boot in the mud and running on the spot. Not fun.
