A once great heavy metal & hard rock institution has been given some absolutely sh1tful treatment in this country.

After more than 20 years as a very successful and well-respected magazine in the UK, Kerrang last year began producing an Australian version which should have been called the "Nu-Metal and Pop-punk monthly".

Recently a double-CD came out in the same vein.

Now, this former hard rock icon has a radio show on Triple Bloody M!

Two major faults so far, after about 40 minutes of listening :
1 - too much local content. Seems it's okay to play rubbish as long as we "support Australian music". I'd rather hear & buy foreign stuff that's actually good.
2 - where is the hard rock? One genuine hard rock/metal song and that was Pantera's "Mouth For War" which was released twelve years ago. Otherwise been subjected to Living End, Audioslave, Grinspoon and The Strokes. HELLOOOOOOOO this is the same stuff played for the other 167 hours of the week.

Doesnt sound overly flash.

The best Metal radio show in Adelaide is Power Surge on a community station 3D. Bloody good show. Lots of black and death metal and plenty of Aus Metal acts as well.

Well, that's definitely metal!

I don't expect a station like MMM to play extreme stuff, but then again, not playing it defeats the purpose of having a specialty show. Why have a specialty hard rock show if they play the same stuff they play around the clock, every day?

In Melbourne, PBS-FM has by far the best metal shows. Jeff Rule has an 8pm show on Wednesday which plays a bit of everything... hard rock, death metal, thrash, hardcore, punk... not all of it will agree with every listener, but you rarely hear the same songs within a few shows of eachother.

Tuesday nights there is a power/progressive metal show which plays a lot of European power metal, old style traditional metal, and some more mellow progressive stuff, new & old.

The PBS presenters are knowledgeable and genuine, and I've seen them at a few gigs around town. I doubt the Kerrang Radio hosts would know the local metal scene if it bit them on the arse.

That Kerrang Radio sounds absolutely awful. Power Surge sounds good though!

PBS rules. It's miles better than say RRR these days for metal. Jeff Rule rocks - he goes to loads of local gigs.

I forgot to mention that after my original post, they played Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" to close the show, after announcing for most of the 40-45 minutes that they'd play it.

What's that mean : "stick around long enough and we'll play some metal" ?

I stumbled across the show by accident, and I will very un-accidentally make sure I do not stumble across it again! Triple M's normal daytime fare of repetitive rock is probably better.
