The form Dilshan has been in over the past 1-2 years is amazing. Just continues to demolish attacks up the top of the order.
Great to see Samaraweera back into the fold (even though he did play the ODI's against Pakistan)
Interesting to note Mendis has now slipped to third in the que in Test Cricket behind Herath. Australia would kill for a spinner like him.

Indeed.
It was a tough day in the office for New Zealand. They started well, getting rid of Paranavitana and Sangakkara early. Dilshan then launched an onslaught just as New Zealand were fighting back.
Jayawardene and Samaraweera continued the good work, with an unbeaten 159-run stand for the fourth wicket to put Sri Lanka in the driver's seat.
Sri Lanka should now be aiming for around the 500 run mark.

Good to see Vettori picking up some wickets.
New Zealand cricket is going to collapse once he leaves.

He's all but batted the Kiwis out of it here.

Dan the Man makes Sanga his 300th scalp.
Well done sir!
Awful shot by Sanga. New Zealand need Bond back to take some early wickets. Thus giving Dan V. a shot at the middle order, rather than coming on with one or both openers still there.
I am assuming Tim Southee has been put in the "will be good, but not yet" basket??

Southee appears to be a conditions bowler. Sri Lanka is not made for him.
It doesn't matter who you are, your spinner shouldn't be bowling 25+ overs on the first day of a Test match. Unless it is a dust bowl.

Or your name is Daniel Vettori ;)

This is a smashing. Sanga brings up his 20th Test century, which I seem to recall him saying was one of his career goals. Good on him. It is also good to see a pure wicket keeper (the other Jayawardene) was able to break back into a Test team.
Once again NZ batting and bowling was not up to scratch. Sri Lanka hasn't lost a Test series since that ridiculous two Test Australian tour in 2007. Unfortunately, all their series are 2 or 3 Tests.

A fantastic century by Vettori could not stop Sri Lanka from sweeping the series clean. The top order didn't really do the job for New Zealand and that is the reason why despite a good effort from the lower order, New Zealand fell short of the target.
Sri Lanka didn't get it easy as they were made to sweat by Oram, Vettori and O'Brien. New Zealand's resilience was not really good enough to stop Sri Lanka from winning 2-0.
So, Sri Lanka win by 96 runs to sweep the series clean and retain the number 2 spot in the ICC test rankings.
Sri Lanka 416 all-out
Samaraweera 143
Jayawardene 92
Patel 4-78
311 for 5 dec
Sangakkara 109
Jayawardene 96
New Zealand 234
Taylor 81
Herath 3-70
Muralitharan 3-71
397 all-out
Vettori 140
Oram 56
Herath 5-139

The ODI tri-series is occuring. Sri lanka beat New Zealand in game 1. India beat New Zealand in game 2 meaning the Kiwis are knocked out. If India win they will go to no. 1 on the ODI rankings.

India are being destroyed. They have lost 7/34 and are now 9/139 chasing 307.
Angelo Mathews with a 5 fa.
Staggers me that Dravid is still getting a ODI gig for India, considering the under developed talent at their disposal.
Must have some very incriminating photos stashed away Shane Watson style.

He just got a recall to combat the young players (Sharma, Raina etc.) apparent inability to play the short ball. I think it is more of a message to the younger players that you need to work on yourself. He did okay thogh. Good strike rate.

Wow, talk about a turnaround. It is why he is one of the best players to ever play the game. A 138 from Tendulkar leading to a India posting 319. Will be an interesting run chase.

Streaky? lol
I'm sure you know what I mean.
They struggled to beat NZ, and we flogged them not two days ago by 150 runs.
Suddenly they come out in a final and whip us completely.
Well considering they hadn't played cricket for a while, they didn't struggle against NZ they whipped them. They have won almost every series they have played in over the last few years. And yes Sachin is God, what a champion I think last nights hundred would be up there amongst his best, hard conditions and had to curb his game a lot.

Lolwut? We beat them fairly easily.
And we all know the other two results can be put down to batting first. Means nothing. It would've been a flogging for Lanka too if we didn't drop so many catches.
