View Full Version : Who would you trade for the Eagles 1st Round pick?

Worsfold has said the Eagles consider their 1st round pick tradeable if there's an offer good enough. I was just curious who Essendon supporters would consider trading for say pick 6?
I was under the impression you guys were specifically after a small forward.
In that case we only have 1 that's good enough for a first round.
Angus Monfries
And yeah I would probably trade him. Hes a little inconsistent for my liking.
Plus we have Reimers and Davey that MAYBE could take his role.

Davey or Monfries are expendable imo. Monfries less so but for pick 6, I'd do it.

No way should we trade Monfries, he might not be worth pick 6 by himself but the structure he brings to the team is invaluable.

I used to be a big critic of Gus, but his consistency has lifted considerably and now he's one of the most vital cogs in our forward line. Why would we get rid of him on a pick who might end up a dud?
Monfries is a match winner and will only get better. No way should we trade him.
I would NOT trade Monfries for pick six. He is a proven player with a lot of up side. We could pick a dud at 6 with a weaker draft.
When Woosha says 1st round pick is tradeable he really means 4th round & Ash Hansen:p

No one that West Coast would agree to. Gus is untouchable as far as im concerned. As has been said, theres no guarantee that pick 6 will be any good and Gus has been very good of late and is great for our team.

I dont think we would have anything that would satisfy their needs.
Davey, Jetta and Reimers all are not worth a number 6 pick and Monfries is worth more to us than the Eagles so also wouldn't be worth a #6 pick.
Leroy Jetta (small fwd) from WA, Cale Hooker (KPP) from WA, you may need to throw in a 3rd or 4th round pick as well.

There's noone who I'd give away for pick 6.
There's players I'd consider trading, but for pick 6 you'll be giving away an established quality player and we don't need to do that.

I would trade Jetta for swap of all the round picks...
ie. We get your picks 6, 22, 38 and you can have 10, 26, 42 etc and Jetta

Interesting. If West Coast wanted him, it's hard to see them saying no to that offer.

Jetta and 3rd round draft pick.
I do like Jetta but consider trading him in a deal for pick six. I don't think it would be a straight swap.

Kelvin may not, but I've got faith in this kid!I've got faith in our recruiting staff, as they've shown the last few years (Pears, Hooker, Zaharakis) that even with 2nd+ round picks they can strike gold.
Thus, I'm prepared to be patient with longer-term players such as Myers, Daniher, Still and Slattery.
The reports from Bendigo about Myers being a clearance-machine definitely helped my optimism, too. :thumbsu:

:o Oops, forgot about him.
Is he still playing for us? If so then I'd give him back for pick 6 and go again.

Would be stoked with that, even if it were just the 1st and 3rd rounds swapped (WC would be more likely I would think.)
Or Jetta + Hooker for pick 6.
Would be happy with either of those.
Don't think there's a spot in our team for Jetta. Good player, but we don't have as much a need for that small, quick player as many clubs do. Would rather see him somewhere where he'll get a go, especially if there's something in it for us.
Hooker is fine, but Hurls and Pears cover FB and CHB, and pick 6 will probably get us better anyway.
Imagine having two first-rounders!!!

Not tradibg Monfries. He helps our forward line structure so much and kicks goals nearly every week. Improving as well. Gonna be a star.

IMO there is a spot in the team for a Jetta type, with next years forward line most likely consisting of Lloyd, Monfries, Neagle, and Gumbleton, genuine smalls will be a necessity, Davey being one, we need another for structure.

Ryder won't be a problem for mobility, but I agree that should we see a forward structure of:
Monfries.....Gumbleton....???
Hille....Neagle....???
then we'll definitely need players of Jetta's ilk to contribute speed (more so than the others), tackling pressure and crumbing ability. Davey and Jetta/Quinn/Reimers are a must.
This is West Coast, not Freo. They're not going to accept Jetta.
Monfries is absolutely not expendable
Lonergan + Jetta for Pick #6. WCE would have to seriously consider that. We ease the pressure of our delisting dilemma and we get a top pick.

Lol, Monfries? What is everyone on :S
In the week or two we didn't have him it was evident he was crucial to our forward line.
To the idiot who said we should trade Stanton...
...
That is all.

I'd do a straight swap, their pick 6 for our 10th. WC should realise that pick 6 is cursed and jump at the chance. :D
I'd try offering Jetta and our second round for the Eagles 1st Rounder, but then again I've never been overly impressed with Jetta.
Of course I'd also trade Monfries for their 1st Rounder so I guess I'm the odd one out. Having said that I don't think the Eagles need Monfries so I doubt they would be that interested in the first place.

Monfries is exactly what the eagles need. Some to replace Lecras so he can be released into the midfield.

FFS. A guy from South Australia, playing in Victoria, is not going to agree to go to Western Australia.
Let's be realistic now.

I didn't think of that.
Then again I didn't think of it as I don't think it would be a good move. I think LeCras is a much better player than Monfries and with their 1st rounder they should be able to get a pretty likely midfield prospect if they wanted to. It not like they would need him to be ready made, they still have a few years of waiting yet.
I thought they were looking for a faster crumbing forward type, but I haven't really been paying attention to them recently so perhaps I completely misread the situation. Still wouldn't move LeCras, but that's just me.

I agree, don't really understand the obsession these days with everyone needing to play midfield. A small forward that good is pretty rare, but he could be an elite mid, I suppose at this stage of their development they consider the midfield a higher priority.
Pick 6 is the cursed pick (I'm hoping David Myers fixes that up).
Realistically, I would throw up the following for consideration:
Andrew Welsh
Leroy Jetta

Daniher. This guy could be anything with his athleticism imo. I know he's tall at 190cm but I there's a bit of Stevie J about him I reckon.
What the hell? Trading Monfries/Stanton some of my fellow supporters are going mad i'm afraid.

As mentioned in an above post, there will also be the resting Hille/Ryder, unless you think they should rest elsewhere. Personally I reckon we have 3 of Lloyd, Neagle, Gumby, Hille/Ryder, and leave the one with worst form/injury out of the side (solved when Lloyd leaves).
Rest of the forward line is Monfries, Davey, and Remiers/McVeigh/Winderlich etc who are pretty good up forward and as well as rotating our midfield/HB through the bench we can rotate them through the forward pocket. They provide enough defensive pressure and though they may be slightly behind Jetta in crumbing their presenting ability is far greater and they can still crumb alright. Just my opinions.
This is West Coast, not Freo. They're not going to accept Jetta.
Haha, fair call. But then on the other hand, when saying they would trade they did mention their desire for a Jetta-type, and a WA boy will give them more insentive as they won't have to worry about him wanting to move to a Vic club.
Would anyone do Jetta straight for an early 2nd rounder?

I don't know if WC are looking for a stay at home, crumbing forward, or a hard working HF flanker. They have been playing Wirra in the forward pocket the last few weeks, and he doesn't have long left. They are definitely looking to release LeCras into the midfield (like Jonesy1987 said). The games he has played more in the guts, he's looked pretty damn good too.
Monfries is out of the question and I dare say they'd look at Davey before they did Jetta. Perhaps as part of a bigger trade? (i.e. not a straight swap)
Lewis Jetta (I believe thats his name?) has been playing well in the WAFL and alot of the WC posters are hoping he's picked up by the club. Apparently he's a gun & would be just the type of player they're after. If they (WC) are confident that will happen (drafting Jetta), the trade could happen.

If it appears likely that we are only going to use 3 picks in the upcoming draft as many have suggested. Then perhaps Jetta + 3rd round pick for eagles 2nd round pick. We won't be using that third round anyway so might as well give a bit of extra incentive to the eagles. That would leave us with our pick in the first round and two in the early-mid second round. I would be quite happy with that scenario. I don't think we have the players that we would be willing to give up, to obtain pick 6 from eagles.
i dont get you guys.. jetta is still very yound and has a lot of potential!!! just because every player doesnt burst onto the scene like chris judd or joel selwood doesnt mean that theyre a dud and not worth having!! give him at least one more season, he has shown he has the potential to become a player like leon davis etc... and this talk about myers, ive only been posting on here for a bit but F**K kelvin you need to keep your mouth shut with some of you moronic point of views! some of the things you say make me wonder if your a collingwood supporter in disguise!
